Technical Spun discs or trim rings?

So, I got lucky and found a decent set of steel rims at a junkyard that fit my bolt pattern. I took them home, flat blacked them, put beauty rings on all 4 and ran them for years. Then I decided to finally shiny paint them. Then I found out they were actually 2 sets of 2. I got a set of hubcaps for the front and planned on running my rings and skirts in the back. However, once done painting, my skirts turned up missing! My dad has a stash of beauty rings (where I got my first set), so I figured I'd rifle through and find a set. All proved to be too deep, though. Would my best option for my back wheels at this point be a set of screw on discs (like drill and tap screw) or should I try a more shallow trim ring? Like I said, these are just the back behind the shirts, so I've been running nothing, but a little bit of shiny looks better on all 4s! :) Thanks in advance!

YOU can get pop-on spun discs thru Speedway, forget the screws...

I've looked at that, but I wasn't sure how deep the rims have to be before I ordered.

I'dike to know where to get some good quality trim rings for my wheels. The ones I got in a package deal were apparently some of the EL Cheapo Repo type, as they work loose, ratle and I think would have come off if I hadn't removed them. Was running them with baby moons and liked the look, but not the problems.

In my opinion, spun discs are not a good look. Beauty rings would suit me better.

It's just the bottom of the wheel that sticks out under the skirt. I'd like something shiny there to make your eye believe all 4 wheels have matching hubcaps. My buddy's Lincoln was similar; he had wide whites on the front and skinnies on the back, and until he pointed it out, I never noticed!

I'm talking about my '54 Chevy 210. I've got Olds hubcaps on the front and now I'm thinking about the back.

    The back for reference.

some wide beauty rings would cover the wheel and also provide the illusion that you have similar wheelcovers on the rear.

  10. I had some cheap shiny full moon covers on the back of my '54 under the skirts. The problem with the spun discs is that they are a spun/brushed finish.

Chrome steelies are WAY over budget for this. Trim rings or caps are way cheaper. Plus, I've already painted these. I'd just go with wide trim rings if I could find a set of ANY trim rings that'd fit these things. Like I said, they're really shallow and I just want to make these work. Thanks, guys!

They're 15 inch, small bolt pattern. I'm not sure of much else.

This may be really dumb, but what about the rings that go around the early 90's truck wheels? Something like this

I wouldn't put disc's on a car that didn't need them. Even if they wouldn't be visible. IMO, on a street car, they're like the wing on the back of Ricer cars. They rarely look "correct".

They sell 14"/15" Beauty rings at O'reillys for $12 a ring.

Another way to fix it is to lower the rear of the car until the skirt covers the entire steel wheel. :)

Cool car.. Why not just buy a pair of swap meet hubcaps that are cheap but similar to the front and run them.. No one would know the difference...

Because I already have a nice set of Olds fiesta caps in the front with extra flippers bars that I wanna run in the front. Plus I like to change out the 2 front ones often (it is a custom after all) and I don't wanna be limited. If I could just pick up a set of hubcaps and KNOW they'd fit, I'd have already done it!

And lowering this car more isn't an option until I get air shocks/bags under it because she's a DRIVER! Any-who, a set of rings/caps is cheaper for the kustomizer on a budget!

Thanks for the O'Reilly tip, guys, I'll check them out! Thanks!

I think you misunderstood - buy full hubcaps that match the basic shape of your caps at the outer lip & run those on the back. See my Chevy in my avatar? Nice 52 imperial caps on the front, $5 dented 53 Olds caps on the rear. Can you tell? No one can, and I've used those same rear caps with 3 different pairs of front caps (the Imperials, 52 Lincoln, aftermarket smoothies). All that matters is that the right amount of wheel lip shows. Trim rings never look right.

Discs have no place on a kustom! Atomickustom has the best idea. I would go that route.

  27. I've seen them and I like them but what do I know! HRP

  29. Do not use the pop on discs.....over time they can rotate and cut your rubber valve stem! If you do use them replace the valve stems with metal ones or at least a metal sleeve.

That's what I'd do. Cheaper than the trim ring or the spun disk and it'll look more cohesive too.
