Hey there, is there someone you guys can point me to to modify a flathead intake to accept my 471 blower. I know a guy can buy a new manifold but i dont have an extra $700. Thanks in advance

Just use. 2x2 fenton and one of those ebay plates? Open on two small ends and closed in the middle between the openings?

Why use the fenton intake rather than one of the others? Why is it preferred?

    Thanks.

If you are just bolting an adapter plate to the intake, beware that some intakes had tilted bosses for the carbs. Maybe that's why guys like the Fenton?

This is what I did, A Canadian 2bbl intake. Milled off the top and welded this plate to it...That extra weld was an attempt at making a o-ring groove

The Fenton intake is a low flat intake and not much there to machine off

$625 canadian. I dont wanna screw up an intake and mount plate and be out that money. Ive seen posts on doing it but talked to a guy that sells flathead blower intakes and he said its a big gamble doing it the diy way. He said side to side and front to back dimensions are critical for pulley alignment and belt life. Im thinking a couple hundred dollar intake and a hundred dollar pre made plate and the shit to make my welder do aluminum, never mind my time, I'm better off buying one. Just me tho

smart thinking there 1931Modela. Flathead's aren't cheap. Blown flatheads are worse!

at the end of the day the cost of an intake to make sure the blower is where it's mean to be is at worst 2x the cost of a 2x2 or 3x2 intake. You will end up having a fair wack of $$ in the motor by the time your finished and I don't think the cost of the intake will be what weigh's heavy on your mind.

I endorse having a go yourself if you have the tools and the knowledge, but also realise that sometimes spending $ to get the right part actually saves you time and $ down the track. Really depends on a guys situation.

Good luck with it, its a fun ride, both building the motor and also once its done.

I was lucky enough to get mine on e-pay years ago. The Mitchell intakes are getting rare, I'm not sure if they're even still in production.
