Had water in exhaust and in the pan but didnt appear to be any in the cylinder, dropped the pan today and found this. Fixable? If so any recommendations in the OC or LA area you remmomend?
Check the Ford Barn,There was a thread on this, some have claimed to fix with JB weld?,or metal stitch?,seems it all depends on how massive crack is!http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130470&highlight=pan+rail+crack Pete
If it was just a leaker it could probably be patched but my concern would be the crack going through the main web
If it has water out the exhaust it is probably done. I would JB or something to patch it enough for a pressure test.
if you cobble some jb weld on it and it stops the leak ask your self ! now do I really dare to take it anywhere and ruin the crank , cam and so on . like the guy said - sell it to a guy with a boat and save you some headaches . BUT THATS JUST MY THOUGHTS .
no I wouldnt think of doing that< i agreed with the comment to the extent that the crack is deep and the block may be too far gone....
There are other cracks because that crack in the pan rail does not leak water. Look above it where the water jacket is. The main bearing web is probably cracked into the water jacket there, or around the bottom of the cylinder. Dave.
Yep .That's the bad part .what usually cracks that cracks something else. Not good.Makes you say all kinds of four letter words..And in this day and age hard on the wallet.. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I just went thru the exercise of finding a new block. Yours looks done to me. Even if you can stop the water leaks, I sure wouldn't trust it at all. You're in Socal, so go to H&H and beg a good deal on another block that's magged, pressure tested and sonic checked. It'll be money well spent. Good luck
