Thanks for the photoshop h.i.! I think everything you did is right on.... looks great! And thanks for the compliments! But the chop pretty much has to stay where it is, because I'm 6'3".... and maybe still growing. And because I channeled the coupe 2-1/2". The idea for the angle chop was to get the right attitude and sacrifice less headroom(although not windshield height!)... And because a lot of early race coupes seem to have them(maybe for the same reason?)... Anyways, I appreciate your input, and I also like the idea of steelies, but I think its gonna have wires at least 'til its out on the road.

Ok so I have already gone through a bottle of argon tig welding.... Which I'm cool with, but I do have a question for experienced tig welders. My chart says you want to have the gas post-flow set at 6 seconds(for 1/16 to 1/8 inch steel), so maybe its just my mig mindset.... that seems like an awwfull waste of preciousness.... Input will be very appreciated! Heres the wheel-well I've been working on, its not finished yet... but the overall shape is there. And then I decided to start a wade coupe-esque front crossmember(which will end up on a future project) with the cutoff frame horns from my '32 frame, just for practice. Enjoy Joe
Great stuff.. Good to see you getting into some TIG welding! Postflow is good for sensitive materials, such as exotic blends of stainless, stainless castings,steel castings and the like. For the stuff you are currently tiggin away on, it's not that critical. It is, indeed a waste gas/money. Set your postflow for 2 or 3 seconds and you should be fine, all you need is for the steel to cool down while under the flow of argon, otherwise it will oxidize(rust). Your MIG welder handles this without postflow. As you are coming to the end of your TIG weld, just start backing off the pedal and you can see the weld cool(with your helmet on), when it's cool to your eye under the hood, let off the pedal. Thanks for answering my question Matt! It seemed like 80% of the time the torch was well away from the weld, and the weld had cooled before the gas had stopped. So that's good to hear.... In other news I've been working on my front axle until I get more gas, I've drilled 1/4" pilot holes in the web between the wishbone holes.... And 117harv's thread on the axle he's doing inspired me to chrome my axle, so I've started down that road(I have a lot of pits to fill... which I'm cool with). The webs will be painted black, so they will remain as-cast(although drilled). ....Pics to come

More like a hippie/redneck family haha! My mom is a real estate agent and my dad is a woodworker/contractor/cabinet builder. So between the two of them we end up buying total fixer-uppers and we do 'em up, then live in them for a bit. haha I have't had time to work on the coupe 'cause we're thrashing on the new house.... But I can't wait to get back in the shop!
Hola and good evening to y'all! As I've been super busy with school and working(not to mention moving), I haven't been doing as much I wish I was. All symptoms of everyday life aside, I have gotten a few things done.... First off the coupe, my car parts, and all my tools are now in their new home. Also My 99r flathead is in the machine shop, and I've been helping the guy and doing most the work on it so far.... Plans call for a 3 5/16'' bore, merc crank(shown), Isky 400jr cam, Ross pistons, and Johnson tappets. The machinist has all this stuff sitting on his shelf left over from previous projects... And because I've been working I actually have enough dough to get all that junk stuffed into my block! I'm super excited about getting this thing together!

I am struck by the similarity to what your are building and what John Buddenbaum built about 25 years ago. If the eBay link still works, here is his car. Note that he carried the windshield glass well above its "normal" position to gain visibility. I know you're past that point, but it you find your car hard to drive, that might be a solution. That's a cool car. Kinda looks like it was modeled after the so-cal '34 coupe.... And yes I am a little past that point, but if it becomes a real issue it's only metal work! Just in case y'all are wondering, I have been working on the coupe.... But it's boring stuff. When something good happens I'll let you guys know!
Well I went to Texas, met a bunch of awesome people....(Ryan, the guys at Austin Speed Shop, Brian Bass, Chris Casny, Lee Pratt, Texasspeed!, etc.) and I got totally pumped and super inspired to get my car driving. It was an AMAZING trip ..... So I am finishing this thing by april for for the you know what roundup. Heres where it's at! This is what the body looks like. I'm waiting on a sheet of 18gauge, so I'm doing more frame work for now. I decided to redo the front end situation again.... (I'm aware of how rough the body is right now.... All it needs is a lot of love)
Here's the new front end work. I know somebody on here might not agree with the spring on top setup, but it's what I came up with to leave room for the radiator(more on that later).

Nice work skatermann. I haven't read the whole thread yet, still exhausted from Anderson's T read. I love the use of the A firewall. I have always hated 33/4s(unless there's hoods). Have you thought of laying it back like from maybe right above the bottom of the bead rolls?, I know still a lot of work. Good luck, Wyatt. "I need my mirror boy"

Firewall update.... I'm hoping to get it buttoned up tomorrow. ....I'm thinkin that little triangle might be the perfect spot for a firewall mounted gauge of some sort
So I got a little further on the firewall last night, but I ran out of mig wire.... So I didn't get it all done. I pushed the coupe outside this morning to get a good look.... Many feet of welding ahead of me on the body. -Joe
