Very nicely done. I was wondering if the volume of the countersink and the spark plug changed the compression ratio any? Also, are you going to dyno this to determine the timing of the second plug or just by ear?

Thanks again for all the good comments, it's very much appreciated.

Dave, I would guess that the extra plug has lowered the compression ratio, by how much I don't know. For me it's still an upgrade though as these heads have replaced stock Mercury iron heads.

And yes, I will get it on the dyno to set it up. It is all back together and running but as of yet I'm still waiting for the secondary dizzy to arrive. Once it has it's just a simple mod and fit it, everything else is done, all the plug leads run, the coil wired through a switch and extention made for the dizzy.

That is crazy. No way I'd be able to pull that off, very impressive.

  10. I got a quick question hopefully it has not been asked or answered, with the twin dizzy setup, you are driving off of a common gear correct? so one dizzy turns backward, how are you handling the spark advance?

Really cool. Nice machine skills and very nice welding skills.

Probably one of my all time favorite tech pieces.

On mine I put an idler gear between the two shafts. On this deal they seem to both run as intended at the factory. just at two different places on the cam gear. This twin plug installation is so cool, I have to wonder if you have considered selling the bungs and instructions as a kit. It's just so neat.

As others have said, both dizzy's run the same way so there's no issues.

I'm sure Pete will update this thread himself at some point but in the mean time I thought I would put up a couple of videos.
Pete was kind enough to allow me to share the car at a hill climb event here in the UK this past weekend and having also raced the car prior to the engine work I can confirm that it has all been worth the effort! It goes like hell and here is the proof...

After reading your hill climb special thread (amazing) I have been running through your other threads and thought it worth bumping this in case others (like me) had missed it. Inspiring work!

  28. Hi Pete,

Excellent work and craftsmanship. What's your experience now after almost two years? Are you using the same spark plugs in both holes, or maybe a cooler one for the one above the piston?
    Looking forward to an update.
BTW have you seen this thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/some-lsru-2016-photos.1015230/ with photos taken by 40Vert at LSRU 2016? There is a very nice twin plug flatty.

As a kid learning about engines, I would count spark plugs to determine how's many cylinders. This would have thrown me. As did the dual ignition V12 American LaFrance fire truck parked as a fixture in the city park playground. Nobody believed me that I discovered a 24 cylinder engine.
