What did you take your drivers license test in?

What ever we drove in drivers ed class summer of 1972. I think it was a 4 door Chevelle.

 

A new 1953 chevy................rich

 

1968 Galaxie 500.

That was also the first car I totaled a couple of years later.

 

I had to take the test in a drivers ed mid 90s Ford Escort wagon complete with passenger side brake pedal.

At the time I had a 72 Mustang convertable but I had to use the class car for the test.

 

'73 Buick Electra 225. Dad got rear ended in it a week later and it went to the crusher. Engine ran great with 140K on it because Dad had Delta CD ignition and a buttwipe roll frantz oil filter on it. He took those off and I still have them.

 

On a Yamaha 100cc motorcycle, one honk turn left--two honks turn right ..1965...
good to drive/ride any motor vehicle.

The trooper that did the test had to be nearly 7' tall and needless to say, it was a short test....

 

My stepdad was going to take me to practice parking in my mom's car but changed up so I took my '65 Nova SS 327/300 4sp. This was Sept 1970. Let all the air out of the air shocks and then pumped 'em up after I passed.....

 

1962 Chrysler with a 413. Ugly car then, but I'd love to have one today.

 

1960 Chevy 4 door six cylinder std shift that the High School leased from the local Chevy dealer for driver ed. Neither school or dealership exist now.

 

1967 Chrysler New Yorker 4dr 440ci BOAT! But it could smoke the tires right off the rims!

I had one just like it in a convertable with a 4-speed as a senior in high school in 1975. Same beautiful gold color. Previous owner was a lady who worked in a office that shared the parking lot with my after-school employer. Car was in beautiful condition and I drooled over it every day when I got to work after school and soon after picked it off a local new car dealer's lot when she traded it. Couldn't believe my eyes when I drove past the dealership and saw it sitting in the front row. Locked up the brakes in my car and went straight in to make it mine. Ran incredibly well and was a really nice car to boot. Power top, factory 8-track. Lots and lots of smooth power without ever seeming to put any strain on the engine. I later had a bone stock '67 Chevelle SS396/325 and the GTO would have left it in the dust, no question whatsover. Either the 325hp rating on my Chevelle was high or the 350hp rating on my GTO was way low. Never compared the statistics, but the GTO seemed to have significantly more torque as well. Needless to say, I'd love to have the GTO back. Thanks for posting the pic as it brought back some great memories.

Took my test in my 69 cougar - 351 windsor... hard on the eyes but fun as hell to drive! hahaha! In fact you could have said the same thing for my steady girl back then. hahaha!

 

UUUhhh sadly a 92 Saturn SC2. On a nice note the car was so damn tiny i didn't even have to back up for the parallel parking.

 

My folks' 1984 Buick LeSabre 4 door boat. I had learned and practiced on my 1966 Beetle. I could barely judge distances, backed into a telephone first road test, hit the curb on second one, passed third try!

 

4 wheels: 1975 GMC Jimmy, man was that easy to parallel park with the rear bumper only 6" beyond the rear window.

2 wheels: 1975 Honda CL-360

Class A: 1978 Chevrolet C-30 Dually and livestock trailer.

 

My Mom's 1971 Chevelle 2dr ht.Next few days I went in with the 1969 Honda CB350 and rode it there and got liscense and drove that to school every day......Learned in my Dad's 69 C-10 stepside 3 on the tree......LIke to still had those

Mine was a hand-me-down 1950 Dodge 4-door. Ugly gray. Gawd, I hated that thing.
(And, no, I don't wish I had it now.)

I had been driving it for a while even before I turned 15 and took the DL test. (15 was the age you could get a "learner's permit" license back then if you lived on a farm)
I remember like yesterday backing away from the curb with the State Trooper sittin' on the right. Didn't even make it all the way back and he says "drive back in" I said "huh?". He says "you didn't turn around and look for other cars" I said, "yeah, but....but, I always look in the mirror"

No go, he didn't pass me. Had to go back another time.

What really torqued me off was that my older sister passed her test first time out in the '58 Ford family car. Never heard the last of it.

 

68 SSRS 396 Camaro & I got my first speeding ticket the very next day. Mom & Dad were so proud... NOT!!

 

Took my test in '58 in a '55 Chev 2nd series shortbed, 6 cyl, three speed. It was my parents appliance store delivery truck. But couldn't drive it to school after I got my license, still had to use the Schwinn.

My bosses 68 Chev 3/4 ton pick-up, that afternoon I was out delivering bottle gas with it.

 

It was 1957 in Arkansas, I flunked the written test but the examiner (state trooper) knew I'd been driving 2 years already so he approved the license.

Second license was 1966 in Oklahoma, I drove a '62 Galaxy 500 406 high perf factory hot rod. Passed the test but had points knocked off for backing too fast.
