My Vintage Dirt Modified

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hank37, Apr 11, 2012.

  1. My latest project is nearly finished , still needs front end sheet metal painted to match body and lettering applied. Had to buy a ramp truck to haul it to races. The body is a 62 Falcon I found at a scrap yard in really bad shape. Engine is a 425 h.p. sbc with a 2 speed Johnson trans.that has the clutch drive plates inside trans. with low gear and high is direct drive with no clutch . Out back is a quick change rear with 6:58 gears. I'll be running with The Blast From The Past Vintage Club out of Reading , PA. Thanks for lookin, Hank :cool::cool:

That is pretty cool. I like it. Do you have any other pics of the build you could share with us?

  5. Stan, this was the 73 championship car at Grandview Speedway.

are you gonna make it street legal?

l am putting a 194Oish dodge body on a 2001 modified chassis to make a street legal dirt track car to help raise funds for cancer.

my friend has a 1969 winged sprint car that is street legal, it's a blast to see it rollin' down the road.

cool car:D:D what year falcon body?

That is so cool what you are doing.

I always loved the open wheel dirt modified cars.

To me that's real racing and not what you see on TV that they call racing.

What tracks in PA do you run with your club?

    Best of luck. Jimbo

Is the left rear tire just for rolling the car around??
You must run quite a bit of stagger when racing?
    Nice car.

  15. No I'm using that left rear for 9'' stagger the track has 14 degree banking and thats what we run in 1973 at that track and won the championship with . If you look at first set of pics you can see the difference in tires.

That thing is sweet. I grew up around the Big block mods at OCFS and spent a few years working on them as a teenager. I even worked on Brett Hearn's 358 car for a couple years. Now that I moved to VA I miss the modifieds, we only have late models and imca modifieds down here.

Nice race car.9 inches is a lot of stager. But I think the hauler is cool.. I wish I still had my ramp truck. I recall when almost everyone had one. Now you never see one. all you see is enclosed trailers.. I think it was Josh Shaw who called them coffins.
