Can anyone tell me how many 1955 Chevy First Series Pickups were produced? I believe they were only made for the first three months of 55' and then were replaced by the second series. I'm looking for one of these but they are getting harder and harder to find. Thanks
Carryover of the 54 model- virtually the same. If you like that style 54 is not common but a whole lot easier to find than a first series 55. Personally I prefer the earlier ones with the split windshield and the nicer grill, but some guys prefer blonds over redheads also.
Big plus with the 1st series '55 compared to the '54............open driveline!!....no torque tube. I have a 1st series '55 panel and I love it.
I had a 55 1st series GMC back in the 70's and early 80's. I never like the Chevy grill, but the Jimmy had a nice one and I liked the one pc windshield.
Joey --- Great Trucks --- Built from Jan 1955 - about March 31st 1955 --- I say about, because the various plants were shut down - retooling their plant to do the 2nd series 1955 - new body styled pickup while other plants were still producing. The best I can find, on internet, is about 22,000 of the 1st Series Trucks were built. 1955 First Series - Identical to the 1954 model year, except redesigned hood-side emblems and modern open driveshaft in place of enclosed torque tube. Serial number codes unchanged from 1953 and 1954. My son actually has one for sale on Ebay right now .... Ebay Address: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Other-Pickups-1955-Chevrolet-3100-1st-Series-/161232883053 I wanted the truck for a Birthday Gift ! , but he decided to sell it.
Here's one I owned a couple of years ago. '55 first series with a '53 front clip. I liked the early grill better. I had both the early and later box as well. Sold it and the COE.
