Technical no fire

    well trying to start 47 ford for a friend that hasnt run since 1989. cant get fire to come out of dist. fire at points but wont come out of dist. put a new dist in i had still no fire whats going on they had it hooked up neg ground dont know which it is car all stock. any help would be appeciated. donny

    If the battery us set to negative ground be sure the coil is wired the same.

    Only thing after points is coil.

    If you have fire to the points check for bad condenser, bad rotor or bad cap. Make sure that the contact areas for the wires in the cap aren't corroded so much that they won't conduct electricity

    You did put the rotor back in? That sounds crazy but I have seen guys fight a car trying to start it with the rotor laying on the bench.

    A piece of sand paper over the contacts, also make sure its dry... Make sure everything is getting power with a test light.

    Batt was positive ground in 1947 ford.

    If your points are on catch fire something is wrong.... :)

    Put new points, dizzy cap, and rotor button so you know theyre all good... Make sure you set your gap in your points also... A match carton lid works nicely...
