A group of us are planning our first trip to Syracuse Nats this year from south of Chicago. On the way we will be stopping at
Niagara Falls. On our return I would like to work my way south to Lincoln Highway and follow it west to arrive home.
I'm looking for suggestions for "must sees", attractions, and points of interest back through PA. and Ohio. We have 5 or 6 days after the show ends Sunday to enjoy the sights and I don't mind getting off the beaten path a little.
    All will be most appreciated.

Couple of years ago I came home from NSRA Nats in York via Rt.30. Great drive lots of interesting sites and road side attractions. Don't forget to stop at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, its very moving.

The Easter Museum of Motor Racing in York Springs Pa. is well worth it (free). Plenty of old sprint cars and midgets, near Gettysburg and York Pa. I believe Rt. 15. Make sure you check on opening hours. Limited in off season. RT.30 west from there is interesting going thru unchanged small towns.

Just a couple of thoughts....come over to see the Canadian side of the falls, and (especially if the ladies are with you), drive the Niagara Parkway up to "Niagara on the Lake".

Another recommended stop, again on this side, about an hour from the Falls....the Warplane Heritage Museum at Hamilton Airport is well worth seeing.

    Just my .02 cents.

We're thinking of going to the Nats this summer as well.

  8. It's a hike down to US30, but doable, about four-five hours. I usually use Route 11 from Wilkes-Barre to Harrisburg and US 15 south from there to avoid the monotony through the middle of nowhere over the hilltops, that is I-81, though. 11 is 2-lane to Sunbury and then 11/15 except for right in Harrisburg is 3 or 4 lanes, some of it divided highway.

That would put you on US 30 around Gettysburg, might be worth spending a few hours there to see the battlefield.

To all of you that have responded, thanks a bunch for all of your suggestions. Many if not all will make the final trip plan.
We do have passports and for sure will be stopping at Gettysburg.

When you are in Niagara Falls, the American side is more like a park and the Canadian side is a lot more commercial. I try to get up there once a year.

On the American side.. Do the Cave of the Winds (American side is a lot better for this one). Plan on getting wet for that one. Take the trolley and/or walk to all the spots around there. The view isn't quite as good as the Canadian side, but you can't get a few feet from the falls in Canada either. Do the Observation Deck. You can park for free up where the road into the falls is. You'll see it as you come into town. If you want to park closer (and pay) try the lot by the cave of the winds first.

Canadian side... It's a lot nicer town, but it's a lot more commercial too. Bring your wallet. For decent breakfast, go to the Flying Saucer on Lundys Lane. Take in the Butterfly conservatory, it's very cool and your wife/kids will love it. Park in the Skylon tower parking lot if you can and walk from there. Go up in the tower but don't eat there. Parking near the falls is $$$. If you are staying there, see if you can get the shuttle to the casino and leave your car at the hotel.

Maid of the Mist is another "must". Do that from either side. Again, you will get wet.

If you get to Niagara on the Lake, sample some ice wine at any of the places headed into town.
