Possibly the first hot rod I ever saw was when my Dad took me, as a little kid, to an indoor auto show, in Philadelphia, possibly at the Civic Center, in the mid 1950s. The car made a huge impression on me and I wonder if anyone here remembers it or has a picture of it.
All I remember is that it was a channeled coupe, probably a 32, very nice, and probably made the show circuits back then, and it was painted a dark charcoal grey color, with a red plexiglass top insert, and possibly had a Cad or Olds engine.
    Sound familiar to anyone here?

  2. Killer stance and overall looks!

Thats Bob Smith, he still works at Pratt 2nd shift, the car has been completely redone and is street rodded out now (tastefully) I do have access to pix of the car in its orginal state that I will scan and upload here shortly.

Additionally, I have some pix of the "Ice Box" as well. I'll be adding a ton of images to this thread shortly

  4. I remember seeing the purple coupe up at the yard. It was still in nice shape even though it sat outside. Glad someone is breathing life back into it. Can't wait to see pics.

Bare with me over the next few days,,, as I am in the process of scanning various pix. Here is the IceBox running down CT Dragway. I believe this picture is 1962 or 63 as the car appears to still be white

I'm too young to remember the actual car (I graduated in '86), but I had an article about a local from the Wheaton, Maryland area named Robert (Bobby) Hagerty and a car called the Jade East. It was an unchopped A if I recall correctly, though it could have been a chopped T. The article was from the Washington Post, and it spoke of the car being in the show at the DC Armory (or maybe of it not being in the show due to lack of funds?).

In any case, my dad went to school with Mr. Hagerty, and that's how I came by the article. Anyone remember the car? Any pictures of it?

I'd vote that it is Russ. He has made many changes in the roadster since 1984.

,, Green heavy channeled A sedan , White interior green plexi glass top.... I not only remember but have a story.. Either July 4th , 71 or 73 I responded to a wrecker call Langley Air Base , Hampton Va .. The Jade East had jumped the curb at the NCO Club.. The radiator, grille shell , front end parts were all damaged..I gave the ,Hester as I remember, owner a 58 chevy radiator ..Last time I saw it it was in the front drive were I had dropped it off....That was only 40 some years ago..

That's the car. As I recall the stories, the seats were fiberglass (upholstered obviously), buckets taken from Wheaton Plaza. Whether they were liberated or purchased, I do not know.

Where was this picture taken?? Pretty sure that's my father's white 28 roadster in the background and I don't remember this show at all. only a couple shows this car went to that I did not. In fact, now that it's mine my brother and father have taken it to more shows without me than it has before I owned it lol.

Road Agent's show in East Hartford, CT. The "white" roadster is actually yellow and is a 1930/31 and was built and owned by Ronnie Rannou.

ahh. Wheels and stance look just like mine. the white 28 roadster was most likely at that show as well. it went to the first few years at least before the club broke apart somewhat.

Back in the early 80's, I bought a 62 Corvette. He sold Wynn's Oil products,if I remember correctly. Along with the car I got an envelope with a few old pictures and a pile of negatives ( mostly Sanford and early N E Dragway pics) which I had made into prints. To make a long story short, I forget the guy's name I bought the Corvette from. I think this may be him in these pictures. Anybody here recognize him, or the car ?
