  1. Looking good, I love the speed hole everywhere.

I wish I had a lift to transfer the body on and off my chassis, must make it real easy!

Any pics of the dolly you had the body on for a while?

been slow at updating this , with weather, sickness and other projects.
but here is some pics and updates.
got the housing cleaned up alittle, it looked like the axle pads had been moved a few times in the past on this housing,so there was some gouges to fill, fully welded on the axle pads, and got it narrowed.

pinion is now centered in car, instead of the stock 4"offset.

    new moser axles.

also got the new "tanks" gas tank installed. fab'd up a front hanger, basically mounted it like the stock one, but it now goes up to the new x member, and had to clear the pan hard bar. had to also clearence the rear frame alittle, the new tank has reinforcement plates at the mounting points that where not allowing it to align up properly.

Im digging the frame. Did you pin the trailingbarms to the axle pads? I assume using the 2 link will eliminate the need for excessive floor pan cutting required in using a 4 link?

    thank you
yes the rear arms will get locating pins, just like a leave spring. i will do that next time the body is off and i can get a better shot at double checking the wheel base.
yes this link set up does not require a lot of floor to be cut out, only made 2 cuts for the arms to clear the floor.

been slowly chipping away at this project. got started on shaving the body clean.
fuel door, wipers, door handles, side trim, moving the taillights down, firewall all cleaned up and devoid of factory parts.

Ok, so now I'm really chomping at the bit to get started on mine, just waiting for the snow to melt so I can get it into the shop. It's a whole lot rougher that this one, I'm bagging it and was going to go with a 4-link but I like the fact that with the 2-link there is less work to do on the floor.

    thanks jake

the 2 link set up works really well for a custom like this. if your building something more hi performance there is better options out there, but for a cruiser that will handle good, its hard to bet a 2 link set up like this.

stay tuned, hope to be back on this project next week after the round up..

the car is set up for a sbc and turbo 350. as mentioned i custom made all the amounts. with the frame completely laying flat on the ground i had to raise up the engine and transmission. the stock transmission cover bolts to the floor, with coarse sheet metal screws and 10 gallons of undercoating!
the idea was to make the stock one fit like factory , but work for our new drive line.
the cover will now bolt in with nut serts and some kind of cool fastener.
it will be body worked, painted, and pinstriped to match the body.

stock set up. old floor shifter hack job.

top cut out to fine tune our clearance

hoping to keep on this now, through the finish...

extended the stock bumper to fit a std size plate and removed the over rider bar, welded the bumper bolts up, sucked in the bumper tighter to the body, removed the lower valance.

started on the headlights. decided to go the frenched look. used speedway repo 52 merc rings. took the stock buckets and modified the face of them clean, mounted them from the rear,s o you can change a head lamp assembly if need be, or make adjustments.

weld in bolts, cause you will not be able to reach the front once the rings are welded on.

moved the stock rear taillights down 2 3/8" will be a subtle modification, that will most likely go unnoticed, unless you know mercs!
