This is my late '20's Sprint Car project. Basics; "T" engine - RAJO head - "C" crank - T trans Essex frame rails, Hartford shocks, "Green Eng" steering (a period piece) 20" Buffaloe Wheels Frame & Body lay out based on original Miller blue prints. I've been working on this project off & on for years. Seems like it gets interrupted by other projects. I've posted pictures of it on other related threads, but I figured I'd give it it's own thread. I've given myself a goal, to have it finished by summer 2015, so this will be a slow progress deal. I spent some time reworking the tail buck, today and took these pictures. At some point I'll be removing things, & I'll take some detail shots along the way. here ya go . . .
Fantastic - love this car!! I have been waiting for this thread to start after months of the occasional peek on the threads of others. Keep it coming.
Isn't it nice to get to work on your own project ! I pulled my 38 Dodge coupe the shop this fall and went to work on it.I tell people don't bother me tell spring .I got the car in 72. My first car. Keep at it.
sweet project, love these early sprints.....looking for some 4 banger hotrod stuff myself for a model a coupe i belive was owned by your dad in the 70's.......dave
Wow! Can't wait to see more!! Moving this to the Traditional Hot Rods section...it totally belongs there!
Hey Pete, Im so pleased to see this thread and cant wait to see the progress. I really appreciated seeing you last October - you got inside my head with this T stuff, I have a guy not far from me with a bunch of brass era T stuff - enough to build a speedster so Im keen to go see him. Look forward to following your progress, its a seriously cool car. Greg
Pete, Thanks for starting this thread- I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing how your build comes along! The day will come (God-willing) when my project will get off the ground: '27 Chevrolet frame rails '25 or '28 Chevrolet 4 engine with Olds 3 port head 21" GM accessory wire wheels '46 Chevrolet p/u hydraulic brakes 1 or 2 seat body based on either Miller's Durant Spl, Mabel Cody's Fronty 300, etc Do you know/remember what year Essex rails you have?
The 1st AMBR trophy winner, Bill Niekamp's blue track car, used mid-20s Essex rails and I've had a 26-27 Essex frame set back for almost 20 years waiting for my dead ass to make a crude copy of that wonderful car. It might be easier to do an Essex frame based T and call it good. Love your project.
Wow! Can't wait to see you move this build along Pete. That's quite a list of "basics"! Will it be tagged and street driven?
In one of the pictures you can see another old race car in the garage. That one can't be street driven. This one is tagged & will be street driven.
so cool. buffalo wheels are incredible . are the tires like the clinchers on my motorcycle? I don't see a drop center.
The sprint rules! I'll be watching this build. How about a few pictures on the one in the garage also.
What a pretty car Pete. Is that a narrowed Whippet grille? I too am working on a long-term sprint car project - a little later era. Perhaps you saw it in the January Street Rodder Professor Hammer's column. Enjoy the journey - the final destination will arrive soon enough.
Pete, looks like fun. It was great talking to you the other day. Still haven't heard back about the 12 spokes and the Hali pic isn't a very good one, but I will send it along once I hear on the others.
Pete ,your collection and placement of period correct 1920`s parts is spot on, this is a very inspiring car. Your craftsmanship on the body is also inspiring , the whole car is awesome. Oh by the way you can`t use a Model t trans the bands will wear out then what would you do, ha haa haaa.Model T power forever.
I thought you were going to say "patiently waiting for tire sizes". That car looks like a ton of fun! .
Awesome build. I've been looking to build a sprint car like that for about a year now. I got some drawings and plans together. Keep the thread up to date!
I still have photos of the one you built back in the late 80's Ironically it is finished and has Eastwood Special on the side... It resides in Canfield Ohio and is incredible
