You seem to think I was complaining about the chrome, when actually I was saying the same thing as you. I was pointing out how much trim they used to put on cars; and get the attention back onto cars and off of the guys pants and stance. The point was, makers put a lot of effort into dressing up the total package in the 40's and 50's. You won't find that much "frosting on the cake" on today's monoscheme cars. You took me literally when I said a thousand pounds of trim, but if you put all that bling on a scale it would be significant by today's standard, which is driven by economics and mileage ... next time I'll say, " a bunch of really cool shiny stuff" :)

  2. Me too, what could possibly be wrong with vintage post cards or posters?

Yes, I guess I did misread it. I'm in full agreement with you, thanks for the clarification :)

The caption, from the Kansas Memory website, says "This is a photograph of Fred Andregg and Ceola Smith in an EMF auto, possibly 1911 or 1912, in Hoxie, Kansas. A real estate business building is in the background." EMF? auto.

    See the Buick?

The last photo is a "street pavement dedication at Hoxie, Kansas." I guess they were pretty excited about getting a street paved.

The music also. Where did we hear the music? In the car, because our folks wouldn't let us play it at home. Why do you think we cruised Douglas in Wichita? So we could hear the music.

  12. Did somebody mention music? Cars? Girls? This is one great video! I'm pretty sure it was posted earlier here but is worth a re-post:

  13. The E-M-F Company was an early American automobile manufacturer that produced automobiles from 1909 to 1912. The name E-M-F was gleaned from the initials of the three company founders: Barney Everitt (a custom auto-body builder from Detroit), William Metzger (formerly of Cadillac), and Walter Flanders (who had served as Henry Ford's production manager)

My dad bought this '41 convertible in 1957 (still have receipt). Presently undergoing a complete overhaul. Part of the family. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1392600436.360375.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1392600459.455608.jpg

E-M-F was apparently acquired by Studebaker in 1912.

This is the E.M.F. plant that was located in Port Huron Mi. It was located about 1/4 mile from miy house. Long gone now, there's an expressway and the approach to an international bridge there now.
