This is a project we've been collecting parts for a few years on.... So here it goes. The plan is to use as many old parts as possible. The only concessions will be reliability. Early '31 truck, full hood, fenderless, Merc flathead, 3-speed, banjo, 4" chop, dropped/drilled axle, '40 wheels, Coker tires, juice brakes, & shiny paint. You get the picture... The updates will come at random as I can load pics...
I'm using a '40-'48 rearend, so obviously the rear spring behind the axle is in the wrong location to line up with the Model A rear crossmember. My plan was to extend the frame so everything lines up. I have another project underway that is going to have a shortened frame, so.... Took the two frames and made the truck frame a little longer.
The body was a stack of parts for years.... We bought the bed from our "Ole Buddy" Chad Tompkins to really get this thing headed in the right direction. Things started actually looking like a truck after that.
Finally found a passengers side door.... Model A hinge pins must be made out of the hardest steel on the planet! Got'em out though and the hinges lined up like a champ. Movin' on...
31 trucks are cool. Looks good. Got the floor apart on mine. Here's a pic, late 31 solid top, 5" chop. It was an old hotrod I found.
I am really glad to see your post. I have a 1929 Model A Roadster, and am in process of lengthing the frame to install a 40 rear end with a model A spring behind the axle. With the car a ride height the axle is about 2 fingers away from bottoming/hitting the frame. I jumped up and down on the chassis today, and there was contact between the two as the rear spring flexed. I am considering stepping or the frame 2 inches, then shimming between the spring and crossmember to bring the ride height back to the measurement it currently is. Do you have this potential interferiance and what do you see as a resoulation? Thanks!
Not to high jack the thread but I made new rear frame rails out of box tubing to lengthen my frame and ran into the same problem. I lowered the center of the rear crossmember and it worked out pretty well
I'm still here guys.... I've been working a crazy 7-12's night shift gig for the last few months, and haven't been able to get anything done except work and sleep. What I have been doing though, is collecting parts with the extra overtime coin. The updates are coming, just gotta get off 84 hrs a week at my "Real Job" so I can get back in the garage. sdroadster: I have a C-notch planned to gain some clearance over the axle. I'll keep the updates coming asap.
