Cleaned up the shop today, and this was behind the fridge! Must of rolled back there off the bench, or maybe the cat pushed it back there. Those convertibles roll behind something and get lost all the time.

Well, I did sort of know it was there. I'm going to get it out, re-do the interior and use it this summer while I do some paint work on the Woody. I've missed not having a convertible since the '36 went away. We haven't driven it for two years, it needs a little freshening up, a new top and minor bits, but it's a nice car. I've had it 40 years. Hard to believe.

I bought a set of '49 Pontiac sombrero hubcaps for it, that I need to adapt to fit the late wheels. A set of wide whites would be nice, if I can find a set of skinny whites to shave I'll be rollin, otherwise it's the black-walls for now.

A sort of build thread, or rebuild

Sure the convert is cool, but tell us about the classic fridge. Look like a vintage Kelvinator.

HA HA! Same as my answer. Maybe we need to move up to Michigan where the winters are mild.

I'd love to see what you find under your couch cushions.

All that's behind ours is dust bunny's and cat toys but at least with the cats there's no mice. :D

My mom still has an old Frigidaire in her basement so I recognize the symbol on the door. I wonder if it has a flathead compressor?

Old friges are nice for welding rods but than ain't very efficient as refrigerators . And they get frosted up and need defrosting. Get a later model and cut the meter from spinning so much. Iceman

  19. So if you found it behind the fridge is it considered a barn find?!?! Really nice ride regardless - :)

To prove this is actually a project, I started on the hubcaps. The car has a set of Chevy pickup 15" rally wheels on it, and I want to put the '49 Pontiac Sombrero's on, but the new wheels lack the three clips to mount the Pontiac caps. What to do?

I cut down a trim ring, an old 15" one, about 3/16" off all the way around the lip, with a cut off wheel. Then, I pried the edge of the hubcap up, and released the steel inner liner. The cut down trim ring then was forced under the hubcap outer lip, and I hammered the lip back down.

No new-fangled epoxy, and the caps look good on the car, much better than the clunky pickup center spiders. I have to do the other two, which means I need to come up with a couple more old 15 beauty rings, but that shouldn't be too hard.

The seats are next. I 'm going to put the original seats back, take out the '93 Caddy seats, which were only intended to be in the car temporarily when I put them in 12 years ago. Time slips away...

It would be hard for me to let my convertible sit for two years unless I had it apart, dont worry about the top just lower it and put the boot on and drive it after the snow melts. My convertible has a 52 year old top on it so it stays down unless it rains.

  22. Oh look! You've already painted it blue since yesterday. Fast work!

Dang! I think I will run out to my garage and see if I can find something that nice behind my ice box but I know what the outcome will be.
