Good day.I need some help in telling me what this tail lamp? is. I took it apart (don't we all) to look for any markings and found none.It was very well gasketed/sealed.It has provisions for automotive type bulb in the top and bottom. When you swing the lower portion it clicks on left and right. It is set up like a vacuum wiper in the lower half.Any clues?
That's a "Wig Wag" tail light. They were supposed to look like a swinging lantern and the swinging motion was vacuum operated. May be worth $400-$500.
They made aftermarket wig wags also. this is a factory unit. It wags back and forth when the brake is applied. I had one of the cheaper aftermarket wig wags made of stamped steel but I have not seen it in years.
Was also an accessory for 1936-37 Hudson Yours looks to be in good condition. Missing the pedestal? $400 is usually the ballpark price , depending on condition.
A fellow in our area has a set on his 37 Chevy Pick-up. He told me that it is a pretty rare aftermarket accessory and he mentioned that Studebaker also had these on the early models. Looks really cool!
1937 Studebaker optional "wig-wag" tail lamp. Have one also, and asked the same question when I first found the HAMB years ago. Vacuum operated swing motion.
I wish I never seen it as I now want a pair of them,I know it wont happen since I wont pay what they are worth unless I would hit the lottery.
yes - had one on my high-school Studebaker - only worked when a cheerleader was clapping her hands.....
