I'm guessing this is the result of 1933 earthquake in Long Beach, CA. My dad was in Long Beach when that happened. I remember hearing the stories growing up.

 

I was 1yr. old, mom held me in a door way frame & we both survived the ordeal!

I have never heard of Shamrock gas. Where were these stations found?
I would love to see that Buick in my driveway. I bet that car sparkled with all that chrome.

 

There were Shamrock stations when we lived in TX years ago. Another nice thing about that Buick is that it is a convertible!

 

That's a picture of Fred Steele. A local legend that passed away last week. You may have seen his purple deuce.

 

If you brought your car to Harrison's Garage in the 1950's, with major troubles, you could get it back from them with only minor trouble.

My uncle was in Long Beach too, left Pasadena to help with the injured...fatalities/injuries were very high...he talked about it years later.

 

I was impressed that the girls in the group managed to do it standing up. Feminists ahead of their time?

I was always a sucker for a panel, but the canopy express is nice.

 

Shamrock became Diamond Shamrock became Valero. Shamrock was common all through the southwest (Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona)

 

Still have a Diamond Shamrock in my little town in Texas.
