This is the first time that I'm getting to scroll through the work you've posted on this thread, and all I have to say is, wow! The work looks brilliant, and getting to see it take shape over the course of such a well-documented build is not only educational for a relative newbie like me, it's one heck of an inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing it!

All I can really add is that this car runs just as good as it looks!
Pete is a stand up guy and offered to share this piece of automotive art with me at a couple of hill climb/sprint events as my own car isn't eligible. He has spent a LOT of time setting up the carbs but the result is a relatively stock flathead that revs like no other. It seems so crisp and responsive. Here are a couple of vids of us the car in action. Pete is driving first then me.

Sorry for the late reply, didn't have any pics of the tools I used but have taken some now.

My English wheel, or wheeling machine as they're known here, is just a simple home made tool. I bought a set of anvils and top wheel and used 6" x 4" heavy wall box for the frame.

The bead roller is a cheap ebay purchase. It came with a flexible frame so I had to brace it on the back, and weld up the drive cogs to stop them slipping. It works ok ish but would love a power one. The tooling that came with it is ok, but I needed to make a few of my own.

I made these rolls for the main swage around the top of the body. They were formed by cutting steel flat stock to the required shapes and using them as lathe cutters to shape plastic round stock. It worked pretty good although it did need some time to get the lathe speeds right.

I also used a couple of bossing mallets, a shrinking hammer, a home made long reach hammer, a shitty old dolly and a lump of flat stock for a slapper. Plus a sand bag.

A couple of the most useful tools are shrinker/stretchers. I have one of each to save having to change tooling all the time. They can be bolted to the bench or clamped in a vice, but I have also made a long handle that can be bolted on the underside which allows them to be used in situ on the car.

There's the lathe, treadle guillotine and hand folder that I have at work.

Two small hand grinders, one with a slitting disc and one with a flap disc.

My trusty and reasonably priced T.I.G. plant.

And lastly my little bench drill and belt sander.

Add to that lot the usual hand tools for the mechanical stuff, jacks and stands etc just about covers what was used.

    Cheers, Pete.

  15. You forgot to add pictures of your hands and brain Pete.
They're the three most important tools you have.

I need a drive in your car next year please. Insert grinny faced smiley thing here.

I've had a bit of luck of late and have happened upon a few original Avro Shackleton new old stock bomber seats. Rik (KFC) came upon them first when a bloke asked him if he could make seat pads for them as he wanted to make bar stools. Rik bought two from him and told me about it, turns out I've known and done work for the bloke for years, so Rik told him I wanted a pair. As it happens I ended up with five pairs of these seats, so kept a pair for the new car and sold the others to friends.

All but two of the seats were in their original protective packing. They all came in pairs with some having plain backs, some having 9 dimples on the back and others having 13 dimples. The two that didn't come wrapped were painted in green primer and had labels saying the runners had been replaced, stamped "serviceable" and dated 1961.

Really pleased with the seats and can't wait to get some pads made up and get them in the car.
