49 chevy fuel gauge problem

    hi guys,49 styleline coupe, ive fitted new 0-30 ohm sender, with new 0-30 ohm gauge, new wire from tank to gauge, it shoots straight across past full. ideas? plz. ive converted to 12v btw,

    The wire to the tank is grounded some where.

    do i have to drop tank again then? its a new sender,i couldnt see there being problem there, what do i look for?

    It could be in the gauge as well. Disconnect the sending unit wire and see if it goes to empty.
     

  5. Make sure when you tightened the nut on the wire to the sender that it didn't come into contact with the sender housing.

    thanx guys, i will have to see what weather we have tomoz, it was snow today, and i only have concrete floor outside to work on. let ya know

    I just installed a new fuel gauge yesterday did the same thing, swapped the 2 wires fixed problem.

    Gauge has a power wire and a sender wire, had them reversed.

    my gauge has ig side and sen side, so i know wiring is correct
     
  11. If you converted to 12v, don't you need a 6v resistor inline somewhere?

    ive sorted it, it was the wire on sender, didnt have the nylon washer on, doh!
