I had the water pump seize up. A weird noise and lots of smoke under the hood which actually was the fan belts still turning on the pulleys but no movement in the pump.
Now that the belts are off the shaft is stuck tight. This pump has been on the car for several years.
What I did prior to this was disconnect the heater hose that comes out of the pump and put a blank hose on the end to seal it off. The other end of the heater water circuit is below the thermostat cross pipe and it is also blanked off.
My thoughts are that this is just a water bypass for the heater and that closing it off is no big deal. It should just be circulating hot water out below the engine and back into the pump(or vice versa).
Just a bit of a coincidence that this happened just a few months after but shouldn't be related to the pump seizing and it is just a worn pump dying??
