Car is much larger than a Chevy. Looks more like a 1930 Oldsmobile, or maybe Reo or Marquett. Someone will get it.

  3. That grille is throwing me off. It looks like a 32 buick but the grill is different

Wood spokes like that put it 25-30. Large car, not GM. The grill and 5 bolts on the clinchers is the hard part.

Was that back end by chance modified from a truck, throwing us off ??

Reminds me of a Gardner, especially with the large wooden wheels

Very possibly a Durant. Produced from '28 to '32, Durant ran Buick, I think, but he was responsible for starting General Motors as a corporation. The car does look like a Buick with the vented side panels on the hood. Maybe I'm completely wrong.

I have a pic of 29 Gardner, side view. The hood has louvers like that, can't see bumper or grille. 28 Gardner has pipe bumper, 30 has dual straight bumber. Grilles are flat on both, not v'd like one in pic.

Not Stude or Nash. Hoods, Durant, grilles, bumpers different.

My referance is Standard Catalog of American cars.

    I looked at most cars 27 - 30.

    An Australian Alvis...

  17. That's a tough one...32 Pontiac is the only car I know that had 4 vents in the hood, but it's not a Pontiac...

  18. Not even close to a 32 Durant

  19. Could be a Sunbeam, there were a bunch of models. It sure is bugging me though...

Do you know if this photo was taken in the US?

  21. That was my next question. 19 left.

  22. Maybe Hudson forgot to put one of the vents on.

Grandfather was a coal miner in West Virginia. My mother thinks that he probably did not modify cars or work on cars to much but it really appears that those are large truck tires (probably needed around the mines and in undeveloped mountain areas)

It is a 1930 Graham Paige. Here is a photo of a sedan. Note the radiator shell and radiator, bumper, fenders, visor, four vent doors on hood sides, etc. I was up til 1:30 this morning looking, and then got back on to continue searching

Side view, note large wooden-spoked wheels, parking lights on top of fenders

Bigger photo of same car. Headlight bar on this one also matches one in OP.

  28. that makes two of us. hahaha. I was going through lists of auto manufacturers from the 20s and 30s. I checked graham, and skipped over graham-paige. whoops! Thank you for finding this, it wasn't even me who started this thread, but I kept checking back because it was driving me nuts!

It was driving me nuts, too. I get obsessed with finding out what cars are when they're not run-of-the-mill vehicles.
