I purchased A 40 coupe about 22yrs ago out of Lockport Ny. The car was raced at Niagara it had the motor set back and a road sign as a dashboard.I am trying to locate any history on this car.

I hope you find something out. Maybe you could look for vintage drag pictures from niagra drag strip. If you found a picture of it racing it might lead to more information.

No help from the name/number I sent you from Lockport?

  8. You should bring this out to the Gold Cup at Empire drag way in August, it's a 3 day nostalgia race. I'm sure someone there will know your car !

You've had it 22 yrs? Is it still unfinished or is this the 4th re-incarnation?

Was it lowered and narrowed like this when you got it or did you make the changes to street it? May make it harder to ID now if you did it. If you have the name of the guy you bought it from and have a pic you can scan from the time you bought it, post that info over on the Willys thread along with your info request. Chances would then be good that someone there would know it.

When I bought the car it had the floor removed and a mustang II front end .The previous owner planned to prostreet it. From what I can gather by looking at it as it was it had a drop axle in it and the motor was set back and the dash board was a road sign. The car is not narrowed it only has a 3in mini tub for rim offset and has a 4in drop axle in it.The only names associated with the old paper work was Paul Kawalec(deceased) and Paul Bitterman

The pictures I posted of when I bought it are not really of any quality to identify it in it's as raced form.

if you want to ID this car you need to show some details. this could be any one of hundreds of Willys raced in the old days. "road sign as a dash board" will probably not be enough.

any old paint underneath? any lettering?

The motor was set back to the point where the hole in the hood enveloped where the cowl vent would have been and looking the Niagara photos there were several primered cars that it could have been with the caption unknown under the photo.

There's a Bitterman's body shop just south of Lockport on the corner of Wolcott and Transit rd, they might know some history on that car.
