Thanks - I am totally embarrassed that I forgot what a '52 Ford looks like.

I completely forgot about the Civil Defense frequencies. I remember the 2 little symbols on the AM radio dial.

Nope, Charlie Glotzbach at the 1968 Southern 500. Pearson had a similar helmet but different colors. That year Pearson was in the HM 17 and Baker drove for Fox in the 3. I was there sitting in the Robert E. Lee stands near the flag stand. I haven't missed many Southern 500s.

Interesting. I got interested in the Ground Observer Corps when I was a junior in high school, joined, and worked in the Louisville control center. Learned a lot about plane plotting, tracking, and terminology. It eventually led to me joining the Air Force after graduation.

Glotzbach was and is a good friend. IIRC, he finished second in the Daytona 500 that year in Cotton's Dodge. The winner, Lee Roy Yarbrough I believe, was in the 98 for Junior Johnson.

Interesting '41 Chrysler convertible in the foreground. Do you think that '53 Chev on the trailer was a promotion for one of the casinos?

  23. The 1941 is a Dodge Luxury Liner.

Not a 41 Chrysler, wrong taillights, brake light and trunk locking handle.

Iwo Jima, such a terrible place, this picture alone is enough to give me cold chills.
