Used a 283 in the 39 pickup because it was cheap and ran good. Truck was built for my teenage daughter. Wanted dependable and not a lot of HP to start with. Swapping it out to a 400 sbc this winter. She quit driving it after getting married. Now it's my turn.

355 SB Chev. cause I got tired of looking at it after sitting 4 years on an engine stand.

  3. 307 Chevy in Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup, because the price was right (free), came out of a '68 pickup that only had about 30,000 miles on it but was rusted all to pieces. Ozelle the '55 Ford has her stock 272 Y block.

I have a 401 Nailhead waiting in the wings for my '37 Nash. Not only does it look badass, but I'm looking for a little more torque out of the hole since the Nash is a little bigger car than the Ford or Chevy.

Currently have a spruced up sbc that was cheap ($400).

    327 Chevy in a 38 Chevy, 49 Flathead in a 49 Ford and......in an OT car, a Corvette engine in a Corvette:)
To me it seems natural to match the engine manufacturer to the body. Although and Olds or Caddy in the Shoebox would be just fine with me.

I had an Olds in a 59 Apache too, & for the same reason - already had it.

I grew up preferring Chevy motors although I have developed a better appreciation for what the others have to offer. In any case, my '32 Brookville roadster has a Dart block/heads 427 c.i. SBC since I didn't want a big block but wanted the extra umph. This roadster is not period correct anyway so I had no motivation to go with an older motor design.

87 305SBC in my 35 Chevy and a 90 383SBC in my 46 Olds project. Why, because I got a good deal on both when I bought them.

A 1967 327 SBC I bought from a friend who removed it from his '64 Vette. He wanted a number's matching car and sold me his great running engine for $200.00 plus help yanking the old engine and installing the new one, which I would have done in any event.

I've had Nailheads and other engines in other cars I've had, but oddly enough, never a SBC ! Between that and the money he sold (gave?) it to me for, I couldn't pass it up.

Had it in it when I got it.
Not very traditional but not your everyday sbf either.
Plans are to top it off with Hilborn Injection.

455 olds, bored out to 468 cu in, because I own one and I am a big fan of oldsmobile (and cadillacs), my project car is a 49 packard, too good of a deal on my limited budget to pass up, but if I could have found a two-door (maybe the right 4-door) oldsmobile (or maybe a caddy) around that year in same shape and price would have went that direction. Nothing beats big cubic inches... don't care if it goes fast or not, dual quad carbs setup, ground pounding, stump puller!

I chose a Hemi because I've always wanted one in a car. Had SBC's & BBC's plus a nice 440 Mopar so wanted something different. Its a trad style A sedan so I don't really need the cost of a 354 or 392 plus it's a challenge to make a blower work with the 291.
That aside the Hemi has the most amazing presence in a Rod that can't be emulated with any other engine (Ok maybe a 427 SOHC motor!)

  16. A Ford 300 I 6, because the other two cylinders are completely unnecessary in an eighteen hundred pound vehicle.:D

Not really, I just love the sound of a six with dual exhaust.

  19. Cool... a pair of the rare 'stud girdle' valve covers. If you could find it, a great induction setup would be a pair of the Autolite inline four-barrels on the matching twin carb intake..

We are building a 1950 F1 that I bought from my uncle 12 years ago and sticking a Nationwide Dodge R5 P7 358 in it. Living in Dawsonville and having access to Ernie Elliott, anything else would be silly :)

For now, my 47 Lincoln has a sbc in it. Why? Because that's what was in it when I traded for it. I'll use it for a while, but I plan on a 351W for it later on. That is, unless I run up on a 4.6/5.4 Mod motor with tranny and all the electronics dirt cheap.....

A 402 BBC in my otherwise bone stock '59 Apache. It was complete from air cleaner to oil pan, and carb to bellhousing. Didn't want to be lacking for torque when hauling the grandkids' bicycles. I will probably build a 454 short block this spring/summer.

  26. The '28 Tudor build going on now has a PINTO 2.0 in it :D with a mated T5 (some hp up mods coming to the motor). Because it was in it already and one of the cars needs some sorta gas mileage. If it totally sucks I have a '56 322 nailhead waiting, the frame is set-up to handle a good V8 just in case.

Recently swapped the 390 FE in my coupe for a 427 side oiler because nothing sounds better than an FE, to me.
