  9. Harold was thinking that dropping the extra coin on the Pontiac was really worth it. The Babes are lining up to get in the back seat.

The 58 Pontiac looks just like one I used to own with a 389 engine and a single 4 bbl. carb.

Thanks for posting the photo because it brings back many good memories.

    Ahhh post #88475 Thanks Swi66.
I was always fascinated with the Harley Earl Lesabre since I was a kid. I believe now my real fascination was with Harley Earl and his genius for design.
I Had the unique pleasure of being in the drivers seat of the Lesabre while helping set up for a parents weekend car show at our sons college GMI in the mid 90's. My son and I saw the car again last year on a visit to the GM Heritage Center.

How the heck do you get in? The tracks and wheels block the doors.

On the 34 it appears the front door has been shortened just below the bottom hinge, however on the 38/9 the picture isn't clear enough to say for sure if that too has had the same treatment. I guess there is always the fifth door?! :p

    Doc,

Yeah, my Dad used to be in those lines. He owned a deer camp in the U.P. And told stories of sitting in line for nearly 24 hours, guys getting drunk in line and sobering up. They pressed the railroad ferry into car service during hunting season. I should have some pics of the lineups that he took, i'll have to find them and post here. I have inherited the deer camp and I'm glad the bridge is there. Most people have no idea of the Mackinaw bridge, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world for decades and is still the longest in the western hemisphere.

  28. The tracks are set a lot wider than it looks from the side. The doors would open just enough to squeeze in.[IMG]

This car is owned by a California gentleman who's name escapes me. It was in the NHRA Museum in Pomona, CA for many years and is on loan to the Smithsonian, where it sits in the transportation history exhibit. It was there 18 months ago when I visited, anyway. I had the pleasure of driving it when it was being moved to Washington...it still runs okay...a little hot, but okay...
