Features Not a good start to GNRS

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Jimmy B, Jan 22, 2014.

  1. Was checking the Hot Rod site for GNRS news and saw this
http://blogs.hotrod.com/tragedy-104161.html A good time to double check throttle is working properly on new and old rods. Hope Vic makes a quick recovery

Lucky no one got seriously injured.

I'm surprised they don't push them in.

Thanks Jimmy. Bet the owner's got a broken heart as well as a broken car.

  6. Glad his injuries aren't life threatening.A similar incident happened at the Detroit Autorama a couple years ago during move in.For whatever reason a car got out of control and took out the side of the General Lee Dodge Charger.Luckily no one was injured(I don't believe).Really put a damper on the proceedings.Polished concrete floors are worse than glare ice sometimes.

Wow, hope he is ok and what a shame about his roadster. Hope it was not his face that ripped the windshield off.

What are those door pillars made of at the venue? Moved the whole axle back. A lot more damage than I would have thought for going through some entry doors.

The windshield appears to just be leaned forward from the sudden stop. I'd actually like to see more about the car build. I've not seen any other photos of this car.

An easily reached kill switch wouldn't be a bad idea.....

Makes you think if a top built car can have a problem like that, what could all those shit ball ratrods do.

  14. Won't bore you with the details of an engineered entrance like that. Everything visible is extruded aluminum except for the brake shape caps over the columns. Certainly reinforced framework ubderneath. I was a project manager for a large commercial storefront mfgr in another life.

  17. Now that has to suck big time. After spending countless days or years getting your ride ready for the biggest show of the year to end up having something like this happen. Sure hope Vic makes a speedy recovery.

From the photos, it doesn't look like the brakes were functioning either.
Hope Vic is going to be all-right. Any updates?

  21. Every indoor show I've ever been in, ( since the 60s ) we had to have them drain the tank outside the building and then purge it with co2. I'm suprised they let them drive inside. It's a shame though, glad the injuries weren't any worse. There's always another car.

How do you figure that Nobey? Ever drive on polished concrete with a little dust on it. It is just like ice.

Yeah I know how slick that floor is in building #4. Had my car in there
last March. I was looking at the carpet under the front wheels, looks
    unscathed. Just a thought.....

I am wondering who would be responsible for the judges injuries?
Would the show have insurance or would it fall back on the car owner?
