Why you might need to restore an old car

There was a reason Model Ts and other cars of the period had the same track width as a standard wagon so they could run in the wagon ruts.

 

I used to have to go to work once a week in a Dodge 4 by with original 900x16 military tires,
(fairly narrow). This was on roads and terrain very similar to that in the video. (servicing mountain top repeaters) Those tires worked far better than the wide balloon types. One big advantage we had over the old days was a winch on the front AND the back.

 

Just when you thought you had seen it all...

 

My grandfather told me he had an A model that would go anywhere. I never doubted him but it is great to see this video as proof to go along with the stories he would tell.

im sure he was running bias ply tires thats why it ran so rough....yep...:I

 

I've seen this before and it still makes me laugh at the pansies in Hummer's, creeping over bumps in the road. Like their tires are made of glass.

 

Two more years without some major repair and the roads in
South Carolina will be in the same condition as the ones in the video.

That was great. My Dad remembers the early 30's in Wisconsin, water getting poured in the potholes to freeze making them less rough. He never said how the water got there without being frozen on the way. The roads seemed smoother in the winter to him.
