  1. I wasn't sure where that shot of Paul and Babe was, thanks to all for identifying his location.

Below is the Paul and Babe from northern lower Michigan. This shot is from about 1954. I grew up about 6 miles from this spot. The roadside lookout has closed but Paul and Babe were saved and relocated about 4 miles north on US23 where they remain today:

Another shot of them from many years ago:

And this earlier picture is looking east from the lookout tower, Lake Huron is in the far distance.

Ab Jenkins could make anything go fast including an Allis Chalmers tractor. 67 mph over a mile in 1935.

I believe that was a stunt to promote Firestone? pneumatic tractor tires, the AC was modified with special gearing to allow that top speed, then taken around to county fairs to show how the tires allowed a better ride .

CF-103 It was never built. Looks like a revamped CF-100 .

Ab claimed making that run was like riding a bucking bronco. So much for a better ride. I wondered why he would try such a thing but evidently Firestone made a convincing offer.

This car sold at the Barrett-Jackson Saturday night. Don't remember the price, but quite a bit.

It was a wooden mock up, the CF-103 was intended to replace the CF-100 but during development of the CF-100 it proved to have a higher operational envelope than the proposed 103 so after the project was postponed several times it was eventually scrapped.

This is a postcard showing a filling station in Oberlin, Kansas. Fred Walton is standing in front of the car, Lyle Walton is pumping gas, and the person on the horse is unidentified. The Walton's home is in the background on the right.

Looks like they dropped/lost the Phillips 66 franchise - note how neatly the logos on the two signs and the pump globes were painted out (although they left the "P" on the chimney).

Wonder if this car overheated with all the paper covering the radiator?

No, that's the B-17 that was on display there from the late fifties until Shoo Shoo Baby was restored in 1988. This one wasn't a combat veteran so Baby replaced it; it's now at Dover Air Force Base. When the Memphis Belle restoration is complete, Belle will go on display at Wright-Patterson and Baby will go to the Smithsonian (pay attention; we'll be having a quiz later...).
