I picked up a 46 chevy pick up with a stock 216, replaced a shot fuel pump on it and put the carter carburator from the 235 that I got with my fastback onto it. The new fuel pump squirts a good 1/4 cup of fuel per 10 cranks or so but the truck doesn't fire, yet when I pour a decent amount down into the carb it fires right up..suggestions?

If you look down the carb and pump it, can you see it squirt fuel from the accelerator pump outlets? If not there is your problem. Also is the choke working?
