Hell no... Makes them look like a short fat dude with no neck. Leave it the way is suppose to be, don't try to make it better than it already is.

If it was '53-'55 I'd say go for it, but the '56 is a unicorn and IMO looked perfect from the factory. I gotta vote no chop.

Just because you can does not mean you should. 56 has that eyebrow over the windshield which I think gives the look of a chopped top. I say no.

    I vote no. Not on a '56.

Chop it, but no more than 2 inches. More makes the rest look too fat.

Never ask for advice on how to restyle your vehicle on the internet. Great customs and rods aren't built by committee. This is the only advice that matters in this thread. Good luck, rad project

Nope. Don't do it. I think it really screws up the look of the 53-56 Effie which is sweet and proportional right from the factory. I am always disappointed when I see one whacked.

I WOULD consider a big back window conversion though!

If you can figure out the windshield then chop it.

As long as you are cutting, change the rear window for a wrap around "big window". Also give consideration to extending the cab, to make a club cab phantom, gives you room to move the seat back when the head room is reduced.

Dont chop it, makes em look funny. the 55 56 look good from the factory. maybe zed the chassis an do a tilt front instead, if you must chop it dont cut the windshield just valance it down into the fire wall to the hieght you want off.

if you apply the golden ratio ( 1.1618) of the trucks proportions youll find the roof is near right to the body size, when things fall out of those proportions they never look right.

That's great advice and should be heeded by all who ask "what should I do…."

I would get the best of both worlds - too much chop can ruin the lines, but the stock cab is too tall. Chop it 1/2".

I fully agree on the 56 not needing a chop. They look great just like they are. The 53-55 is another story for me though.

A friend has a 53 that is chopped. Although I think it looks good the thing is a bear to drive. I'm 6'2" and even with a GM tilt column my knees are still beside the wheel and I feel like one of Ed Roths cartoons stuffed into it. I was considering buying it when I found a stock cab for sale.

Don't do it man.... Leave the roof slam the truck... Never cared for the look of a chopped 53-56 F100.. Just my 2 cents..

Chop it. Louvered hood. Scallop & panel paint, chrome reverse wheels. Mmmmmm....

Great advice. You wouldn't ask a bunch of strangers who you should marry.

But then, I'd recommend chopping it. ;-)

it all depends on what you want the truck to be a show rod/ weekend cruiser or the daily driver/ work truck

The windshield doesn't scare you but the headliner does? Really?
I'm assume you have lots of experiance with wrap around windshields and cutting them since it doesn't scare you. I hope so since more 56s have been scrapped after attempting a chop the almost any other chop I know of.
I've chopped a few 56's but I agree with some when they say it throws the proportions off. I chopped one 4" (owners request) and I think it looks bad. Chopped one 1 1/2 and it looks good but a lot of work and most folks don't even notice the chop. My favorite is the one below. I cut 2 1/2" but also sectioned the truck 3 1/2", It's low but doesn't look out of proportion.

Bought a '56 in LA back in 1975 and drove it home to Connecticut. Sure would like to have another and would never think of chopping one. Bob

Chop it and drop it. Nothing like a ground hugging effie.

what kills the looks of the 53-56 f 100 is the front wheels not being centered in the wheel opening, fix this before anything else. i agree the 56 dose not need to chopped. where as the 53-55 begs to have the rear sloping top leveled..
