I should've done this a long time ago...

    Hello all,

I joined H.A.M.B. a while back because, even though I don't currently have a traditional style hot rod at the present time, I am planning to someday in the near future when my plate ain't so dang full. I'm originally from the Bay Area of California, but moved to Austin Texas about 18 months ago. I love hot rods that have been built in the style of the 50's-early 60's. I'm 56 years old and I just love that era, and I have been wanting to build something along those lines for quite some time now. Closest thing to that was a '69 Camaro with a blown smallblock (I know, not even close really).

What I hope to build is a complete replica of my Father-in-law's '31 model A with chopped top and a blown 331 caddy that he raced at the track (but I would be mostly driving it on the street). It will not be any of this ridiculous looking rat rod style you see so much today, where they have things on the car you never would've seen back in the good ol' days of hot rodding. But instead a car home-built the way a dirty old drag racer (which is a perfect description of my father-in-law) did things back in the 50's and early 60's. I'll try and load some photos of the car I intend to re-create later right here in this post.

Btw, I did run across a post here in these forums from several years ago where one of you mentioned my Father-in-law's machine shop, CMF Machine. Someone was asking about who's good at machining Caddy motors in the Bay Area (CA) and he was recommended by one of the members here (thank you!). Unfortunately, my my father-in-law Chuck Flanagan has recently had to move permanently into a nursing home... very reluctantly I might add (not my decision, but I guess it is for his own good). So in case you know anyone who would like to run their own engine machining shop, please let me know... We all have no idea what to do with the shop (located in SJ) at the present time. In fact, if any of you have any input or advice, please let me know!

Welcome from Texas. The second car in post#3 looks like a 32 w/suicide doors. Did he have a couple of rods?
