First of all, GREAT PHOTOS, thanks for posting!

There's a lot more to the story, but here's a quick recap:

The Tucker was built by Rob Ida out of New Jersey for the movie "Sin City II" due out next year. Ida's grandfather was a Tucker dealer in New York who sold 130 cars and then personally returned everyone's deposit when the company went under. Rob Ida Concepts builds some of the coolest hot rods around and is also now rodding the Tucker reproductions in metal (but check out his "Lower '48" Tucker). Rob Ida also restored the Gyronaut X-1's body with some help from Preston Tucker's great-grandsons, Sean and Mike Tucker.

So both the Tucker and the Gyronaut were designed by the same guy, Alex Tremulis, with 17 years separating the designs. Tremulis also designed Duesenbergs, Cords, the 1941 Chrysler Thunderbolt, American Bantams, Crosleys, Kaiser-Frazers, tons of 1950's Ford Motorama show cars, the Subaru Brat as well as assisting in the aerodynamics for both Arfons brothers, Breedlove, Mickey Thompson and many other salt flats racers of the 1960's. It was always Tremulis' dream to run a Tucker at Bonneville to prove out its aerodynamics. So it seemed fitting that the Ida's fiberglass Sin City Tucker be recycled and repainted into a tow car for the Gyronaut for the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Gyronaut project. It's all for fun, but a fitting tribute to the ancestors of all three families from their 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations of car addicts...

  15. Hey LKR, I'm from Perth and was over there as well. Where are you from? Spent the whole week there and didn't see half the cars that you photographed. Funny how that works. Here's a few of my pics just to keep this thread going. :)

    Here's a couple of Yanks I met.

Couldn't find an application form for this club anywhere, but I'm sure they'd accept me!

Interesting, but I'm not sure if I like it...

This thing runs a 256 cube Kenny Duttweiler motor (same as Speed Demon) that makes over 600hp!!!

Hey thanks for posting the pic of my 24 DB Roadster! I drove it there towing my Trailorboat Camper from Central Oregon. Just got it going about a week before I left for Bonneville!

Hi mate - I am from the south west on the coast in between Margaret River and Yallingup. Just got back from running a hot rod shop in Vancouver, BC and am moving home again, going to build a belly tanker hoping to make 2015. I will be making the journey out to Bonneville again this year, salt fever and all that :)
Get in touch sometime if you are going again, we'll have a beer!

I am glad everyone got a kick out of the photos, will take some more this year and share them.

  29. Do you have any more pictures of Harold Johansen's '27 Model T? It's good to see he's still at it. That guy is a legend! I can't wait for this year!
