I have a '62 F100 that needs a new gas tank. The original one is filthy inside and has holes rusted in the bottom of it. It could probably be 'fixed', but I'd really rather just put a new tank in it and be done with it. I have searched around a little bit and so far I am surprised at the lack of sources for these tanks. I figure someone on here knows the best place to get one from.
Sacramento Vintage Ford, Bob's F100's, LMC. The Truck Shop, National Parts Depot to name a few. Sacramento Vintage for sure though.
LMC and Dennis Carpenter, but from my research I'm pretty sure they are both from the same offshore supplier, but DC charges $100 more. I can't knock them though - LOTS of parts on my '62 F100 came from them and everything that they actually make was excellent quality.
Lookin at my Sac Ford catalogue right now and 61-70 tank is $249.95, page 63 in the 2012 catalogue. Call em! 916-853-2244 or get one from a pick and pull thats in good shape and seal it up, gotta be cheaper than $249.00
LMC has them for $199. I felt like that was an 'ok' price. It beats wasting the better part of the day messing with an old tank...and then struggling forever with fuel problems when it doesn't work out. lol Been there done that.
I buy alot of stuff from LMC for my '54 f-100. The ship fast and all the parts fit nicely and work great. I think that they do sell the same parts as DC because some of the things I purchased on my last order came to me in DC boxes.
I'll 2nd that. I did the Mustang 20 gallon tank in the back of the bed of my 65. It was totally worth it.
I got the OEM type tank, with new sending unit, all new rubber for the filler neck, grommet included and a new gas cap shipped to the house for $330 from LMC. I felt like it was a pretty good deal. I really didn't want to have to fill in the filler neck hole on the cab and then modify the pristine bed floor in this truck for a new filler neck. I know a lot of people have a problem with the tank in the cab but it really doesn't bother me - especially when I know all the hardware is brand new. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
