Now if we could just convince four million people to leave the LA basin (and take their politicians with them) we could have stuff like that again...even I, who wasn't quite yet a zygote in '59, can remember when Castaic was BFE.
Thanks for posting an update Rick! I can't believe how much Steve's progressed on the Indy roadster. Remarkable! I remember looking at the frame as well as the print and reference photos on his bench during your "Offy Tour".
Just found this for the first time. This is exactly what I was talking about on the "Form follows function" thread. Incredible. Subscribed.
Thanks for starting and updating this thread. There's some fantastic stuff in here, almost unbelievable, except it's real. I feel fortunate that you shared all this with us. I hope you can post more updates.
A little trivia along with a bump. In the '80's, Quinn Epperly, who may have built that laydown roadster being copied, was repairing wounded aluminum blocks at Rodeck. Great looking build.
had my camera with me on this morning's visit to the shop. enjoy guffey's car in the process of being returned to it's indy roots a drake hooked up to the dyno here's half of a original miller 8 that was cut down for a midget. wow pile of new crankcases
Thanks as always Rick. Great progress on the body work. Looks killer. Cutting an eight in half....aaahhh!
Hi Rick The horizontal grille and flat area for the hood and windscreen are as nice as it gets, talk about pretty lines wow!! I was wondering who built the original race car? Thanks for posting these neat photo's G Don
this car? steve built it from scratch going from a blueprint and a photo. he did farm the body work out.
another update. steve is supposed to be doing something to this car, but he doesn't exactly know yet. it belongs to a friend of his.
covered up in front of the chevy was this cheetah roadster. i had to take a look. how's about a wall hanger
Next time by the shop, see if Steve is familiar with Danny Kladis. Ran midgets back in the day and even ran Indy a couple times I believe. Won the first stock car race at Raceway Park (Blue Island) in a modified jeep. I work with his grandson Jim Kladis. Next time you put a tour together, I'd love to bring him along. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Ah, ha, my first reaction was that the road racer was a topless Cheetah. It appears to have been recently used as a track car and based on the gauges a fairly recent (re)build and not original at least anymore. Thanks for the pics!
It is surprising how similar the Grill Sells are between the car in Post #1, and our Flat Tail Sprint Car Car is Post #1 Our Car:
Holeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyy crap. Now THIS is a thread of epic porportions. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
i love this place. you just never know what you'll see from week to week. like this racecar. better tape those wheel weights on, don't want them flying off at speed with what the price of scrap aluminum is going for nowadays, i bet this car is worth a lot of money. the whole body is made of aluminum. round tube frame. i like the recess for the seat
