I just picked up this 1959 Dodge Custom Royal this weekend. I did a search on this site with very little info showing rehab of these type of cars. I just want to get it running and have fun with it. I pulled the seats out and cleaned it out. Floor pan really solid except the passenger front. I drive a '60 and '61 Plymouth but this is my 1st 4dr HT Dodge. A few more years of wet carpet and it would be toast. It has PS,PB and I think a 361/4bbl. It was missing its caps but I had 3 of these in my garage.

Custom Royal was top of the Dodge line in 59. They were one of the fastest, best handling cars of the time. Swivel buckets a rare option especially on a 4 door. Wonder what other goodies it has?

  3. I think with a slick paint job, like black, that that would be a cool cruiser.

  4. This is at the very top of my want list...hard to come by. Good score!!

Yes, it would look sinister w/black paint. Chrome wheels and lowered a bit. Nice score, mister.

Here are some pics from today's work and some treasure finds. Passenger front floor will need the most work as far as interior goes.

Never new those swivel seats existed, Ive saw swivel high back buckets in 73ish GM cars, They may be more out there but the montes etc. is all I ever remember seeing in cars.

I dont think any of the thunderbirds had swivels, did they?

Hmm,Ive learned something new today. Thanks!
Now if I can just remember it:rolleyes:...:D

$6.00 - purchase price = Damn I already made a profit. LOL The last pic shows the swivel seat. Thanks Low Budget for re-posting the picture. I think 1959-1961 were the years for swivels seats in Ply,Dodge,Chrysler.

They were optional on some models of '59-61 Mopars.

Those mid century mopars are gorgeous! I had a 57 New Yorker. Talk about excess, these cars are over the top!

Sweet score on that 59. I have a 59 Dodge Custom Royal lancer 2 Dr HT and it has the swivel seats. It originally had a 58-59 only 350 Mopar motor with push button auto trans. It also had factory front and rear a/c.

  20. Nice score. I have been trying to pickup just the swivel bucket seats for a while now.

31 Dodger here are a couple pictures of the 59 Imperial seat I put in my 58 plymouth. I recovered them with narrow black pleats with red piping.

I just pulled out the plugs to fill the Cyl. with MMO. It was last tagged in '72. I want to get it running to see what I have to work with.

Well here is the latest news: IT RUNS!!! I replaced fuel pump, plugs and wires, condenser, rotor. After a few shots of ether she fired up. It had antifreeze in the radiator so I let it sit there and idle. I changed the oil and filter and restarted and pushed the drive button and it went in gear. This car has a long way to go but hearing that 361 rumble with no muffler was exciting.

I'd install a rumble seat and take the entire neighborhood to cruise night.

    Hey,

Be sure to study where the torsion bars mount in the frame, and look for rot or cracks, if this had been a '60-'61 that would be a serious issue:eek: Also, rot in the rockers and lower quarters is standard issue:(

My '61 Fury flew and road like a rocket even with the 318 Poly, stopping it on 2'' brake shoes was always a crap shoot:p I 'd go with a dual res. master cylinder ASAP, over the single, either that or lay in a good supply of four leaf clover tokens or rabbit's feet key chains!

And those who call this era of Mopar's ugly probably drove GMs to high school!
