I would like to change out the girl on my 1954 Ford Customline and was wondering if anyone has used a 53 Chevy grill center. I have seen the 54 Chevy grill used as well as shortening the current grill to fit the opening. Any pictures would be helpful.

    Thanks

  2. You can always leave the center bullet off...

There is the missing bullet, narrowed grill moved inside the opening..

And lastly the Chevy grill with extra teeth..

this one is from Rod & Custom back in the late 50's...

This one has major modifications,,the guy even used a complete 1949 Ford front end .. HRP

I can see the 54' Chevy grill fits, but will a 53' Chevy grill fit as well?

Man HRP, that is one cool looking grill. What year is it? Looks like the Vet or a 53' chevy center grill portion.

I think the '53 Chevy bar is going to be too narrow without the '53 surround. Look how wide the surround is on a '53 below the headlights. You're going to have 8 inches of blank space between the ends of the parking lights and the ends of the '54 grille surround.

You could narrow the width of your surround to match, but I think that might give a 'fish mouth' look. Post a pic in the photoshop thread, someone could swap it in for you.

  10. I was told it's a '54 Chevy with extra teeth. HRP

  11. HRP, if it's '54 Chevy then it must be a lengthened '54 Chevy Corvette .

Making your Ford look like a Chevy kinda makes my stomach queasy :( What would make me feel better is a '53-'54 Chevy with a Y-block or SBF under the hood :D Check out these two pictures,Vote '53 Chevy or '56 Ford?

  15. Personally, I prefer the stock '54 Ford grille without the bullet. Either shortened or not, followed by a '54 Desoto. I don't care for either of those choices...

I would love to have a '54 Desoto grill but they are very hard to find. I was thinking of shortening my '54 grill after seeing it on Jimmy V's car.

54 Desoto is nice, I had on in a 53 Ford years ago.... hard to find is right.... heck I had to buy a complete 55 Desoto just to get that grille (close enough)... now I'm looking for a 52 - 54 Ford to put it in

  18. I guess I'm more of a resto type of guy,,I prefer the original '54 grill. HRP

How about like the Foose '54 Ford? http://sundayslacker.com/2012/03/17/kassia/ My upper grill bar has good chrome but not the lower,so I masked off the teeth to give them a floating look and painted the lower bar satin black.Or how about a '53 Dodge grille? http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/featuredvehicles/1306_1954_ford_sunliner/

The '53 Chev grille doesn't look bad on that car, but imagine it if it had one more tooth per side, and was wide enough to have the parking lights centered below the headlights. Then I think it'd be perfect.
