    THE FRENCHTOWN FLYER -- Thanks for the information. I am hoping on a very small HP gain from the things I am doing this winter. At the end of this season motor was a .040 FT piston, Clay Smith solid cam, BBC 1.7 roller rockers, two Holley 94 on an after market Intake. I would guess about 135 HP on pump gas. In last few weeks I had the 194 (62cc) head milled .060 and new 1.84/1.60 sbc valves installed (no chamber work or lump ports for now).

    I am hoping with those changes and the headers to get 25 HP more out of the little motor. Do you think 155 HP is a good guess.

    Later in the year I would like to -0- deck the block to up CR to 10.5:1, open up the chamber around the intake, install 1.94/1.60 valves and lumb port the same small chamber head, may bump the cam up a little. I am hoping for an additional 40-45 HP. If I could get 195-200HP I would be thrilled, what say, is it possible.

    Well I got the first (1-2-3 cylinder) header together. I like how it fits and looks. Not real happy with the welding but it is solid and a little grinding and header paint will make them acceptably. With Holidays on us it will be January before the other one is done. This year has went by fast.

    Tom, that's a very nice header. Santucci says 1.1 times displacement for a healthy street engine.

    Bob, I sent a PM to FRENCHTOWN FLYER and got a reply back from him on a few idea's I had for the motor. I will PM you about his reply. Did you get the PM I sent you a few days ago about the friction shock settings?

    It's a lot easer to get 1 for 1 out of 230/250/292 than it is out of the 194 motor because of piston limitations.

    Thanks for the good word on the first header.

    4x4machinist -- Thanks for the good word, I am starting to really like them.

    canadianal -- Thanks Al, I like the header tucked inside the frame rails, but it made for a little shorter primaries. The real nice part of having them inside the frame is that I can now change my steering shaft on the pitman arm without any interference from the old zoomies.

    Got a good afternoon in today and have the second (4-5-6) header about 3/4 done, hope to finish tomorrow.

    Well I had a good day and finished the headers. I really like the tucked inside the chassis look. Welding is so/so, but they are strong, coating covers a lot.

    May be some "Chrome High Temp Powder Coating" or more than likely just VHT 1500 rattle can.:D

    Just to keep (bobw) in the weather loop temps dropped big time today, 54 deg high, had to wear a med duty long sleeve shirt today, and they say there is "NO Global Worming" :eek:;)

    Tom, You've done a great job on the headers. Flux core and all. I've heard it's very difficult to weld with flux core. They do look real racy coming out underneath at that angle.

    Thanks for the cam information.

    That intake is just cryin' for a couple of Autolite 1.02 venturii 2Vs. So easy to work on - much nicer than Holleys. Ask Santa for a couple.

    Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    Sorry to intrude on your thread, Tom, but Frenchtown Flyer, where do you find those Autolite carbs?

    OBFB HA/GR -- Nigel, thanks for the good word on the headers, like you I hope they sound good & add a little power to the small inch 6. Be a few more weeks until it makes noise again.:D

    bobw -- No problem Bob, information is always good for all of us.;)

    THE FRENCHTOWN FLYER -- Like Bob I would like a little information on were to find Autolite 1.02 Venturii 2Vs? I have never looked at them before. My next carb move was going to be two new adapters and two more Holley 94 to that intake ( about 620 CFM ). Tell use more about the Autolite carbs please.

    When I purchased the current Clifford Intake it had what I think are dual Holley 6500 2V with the complete linkage. Pictures below. Are these even worth trying? I think they are Holley 5200 or 6500.

    Autolite 2Vs were used on many many Ford (and AMC) applications from the late 50s through the late 80s so they are available in junk yards or from aftermarket carb suppliers. They have several advantages:

    -they are available in several venturii sizes - stamped on the outside of every carb

    -they use the standard Holley bolt pattern for mounting

    -they have annular discharge boosters (a Ford 'first' sold to Holley)

    -they are easier to service than Holley 2Vs - the bowl can be accessed for jet changes without draining fuel or disconnecting the fuel line - leak free!

    - they use common Ford jets and power valves - Holley power valves also work

    -they can be had for dirt cheap - $5 or $10 will often get you a rebuildable

    The most common venturi sizes are as follows:

    .98=190 cfm
    1.01=240 cfm
    1.02=245 cfm
    1.08=287 cfm
    1.14=300 cfm
    1.21=351 cfm
    1.23=356 cfm
    1.33=424 cfm

    You've got 194 cu.in. to play with! Try 138 cu.in. against Flathead Fords. Just kidding. Nice job on the pipes.

    138" 6 cylinder is for sure giving up some cubic inches to most all of your Buds.

    Does Holden make a bigger inch motor? What HP do you think it puts out?

    Holden didn't make a larger engine until mid 1963 and that was only 149 cu.in. and 179 cu.in.. These were a 7 bearing motor and more "advanced technology".
    A porting job and triple S.U. carbs are enough to give the others a scare plus at only 600Kgs (1320Lbs) with my fat arse in it, it's usually quick off the mark as well.
    The original Holden 'Grey' motor was rated at 60.5 H.P. I think. Peter

    Peter, At 1320# with you in it makes for a nice lite hot rod. Sounds like with 7 mains it is like the Chevy Generation 3 line, just a bit smaller. Does it have the head bolt & boss running through the intake port like the 194/230/250/292 Chevy 6? What do you run for rear end gears? Tom

    G,day Tom. The Grey motor was only a 4 bearing motor of pre WW2 Buick design. They were prone to breaking cranks when in the 5000 rpm range so I get around that by running through at 6500rpm at 1/4 mile tracks in third gear and second gear at 1/8 mile.
    Final gearing is 3.36:1 open centre . A limited-slip centre for the housing I'm using would cost more than the whole car. I run around 14psi in the rear tyres so it usually grips pretty good. Rear rims are 14" as opposed to 15" most of the others are using.
    I've tried putting a couple of videos on here but with no luck as they seem too big. If you look on youtube under spanners94 you should find a couple. Peter.

    spanners -- Peter, I went to You Tube and checked out the 5 videos of your ride. That is one lite, quick HA/GR out of the hole. That little motor gets with the program. Gives them Ford V8 flatheads a run for their money.

    With your 138" motor and a 14.30 in 1/4 mile I hope to put my SDRA ride with 194" motor/PG in the mid to low 13's this season and if I can drum out a 12.99 I will be esstatic. We will see how it goes as T&T starts in February.

    For you HAMBster's out there, you can see "Peters (spanners) videos" on YouTube, just put in spanners94 and check them out.

    Well the old Juice Bucket is back together with a new rebuilt head and bigger valves along with a fresh set of home made headers. Fired the car up today, ran fine and the new headers worked and sounded great.

    My wife Dixie shot a video of the motor startup and it is on (YOU TUBE), just Click This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbJf9IYgCHk or put in "SDRA dragster for the coast startup" to see it. I think it works when you click on it.

    Hope to get the car out for a couple street launches this next week. Maybe I can talk Dixie into another Video.:)

    Hope everyone is moving forward on changes and completions as our season is right around the corner. T&T starts end February.:eek:

    sounds good. If you are not finished yet you may want to invest in some plug wire separators or some rerouting of the plug wires. The way it is now with what looks like from the video a couple of wires laying on one other or in close proximity you MAY get some inducted firing from one wire to the other at the wrong time.

    old6rodder -- OK Dick, don't mess with my mind. I know I am opening myself up for a few shots, but where do I find click this.:confused::eek::rolleyes:

    I think my talent is more with motors & hot rods, leave this high tech stuff for my grandkids to play with.:)

    mudflap261 -- Larry, good to hear from you. I think 12.80@103 sounds real good, I would be Happy/Happy to dip into the 12's in this trim. Motor was idling at 1400. Motor, cam & carb settings like 1200 in gear and I can foot brake the idle up to 2200-2400 for the leave, that's all my small rear Mustang drums can hold.

    If the early test and tune season is good I still will have some time before the ANRA season opener and I would like to change my gearing from the 3.73 to a 4.88 so I can get my RPM up around 6000 at the stripe. Would still run the same Ford Traction Lock setup. The cam I am running max's out at 6500 and I am currently only running at 5000.

    300racr -- Thanks for the good word. I sure hope all three of you guys can make one of our ANRA races this year. I know it is a long road trip, buts lets hope so.;)

    bobw -- Thanks bob, I am real happy for my first try on headers. Sounded good in the shop, hope to make a couple street test this week. :)
