Has anyone put a 302 in a Model A with a Model A frame and: 1. Used the stock pump 2. DID NOT recess the firewall 3. Kept the body in the stock location 4. Kept the rad over the spring perch If so, how much did you lengthen the frame? I see a few guys recessing about 4 inches and sometimes using the shorty pump on top of that. I am "not down" with the shorty pump due to the cost and lack of availability. Would 5 inches be too much? or just right?
Once you get the short Ford Racing water pump straightened out it actually works well, but it takes some doing. I went through 3 pumps before I got mine dialed in because I was using the wrong pulleys (Zoops) and was over driving the pump by about 50%........kept blowing the diffuser ring off the pump vanes. Finally found the company that originally made the pulleys for Ford Racing (Runne Rite) and a set of their pulleys slowed the pump down to the right speed. I had about $1000 in the setup before it was over but it now cools great and has held up for the past 3 years just fine.
Hmmm... Mine has (when done) Snow White pump, reversed flattened firewall, 3" stretch and body moved back 1 1/2". Has just enough room to get the belts on. I think 5" stretch would be close but, the wheel base might start looking disproportionate. I think there is a stretched Model A frame thread somewhere.
My body and radatior is in the stock location, and runs a stock water pump just mount the engine and cut your fire wall, 302's fit great.
