History Fenders on a hot rod, why not? Stand up, proud

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by volvobrynk, Jan 6, 2014.

  1. I have been building and driving hot rods for 50 years now and I never remember a time when there was a law enforcing any fender laws if they were ever on the books. HRP

  2. connecticut it is a law you have to have fenders, that said i have made many brackets and fender braces that went on cars before dot inspection.....then never saw them on the car after.

TB33anda3rd does that mean you only have too do one inspection?

HRP, it's possible you are right. You are a man who knows his stuff!

My only evidence is two threads on here. One about stupid things cops say; Rhode Island don't allowed moving parts un shielded. And the thread on Frank's car; stating after 57 in cali cars needed fenders.

But still feel free to post pictures of east coast style cars. :)

It also keeps crap from slinging onto the car behind you. Don't know if you have ever followed an 18 wheeler with no mud flaps but it can be kind of nerve wracking.

  7. yes. most cops are "car guys" but if you piss the wrong one off he/she will give you a ticket, and/or a reinspection notice.

    You guys are so lucky!!
We get out cars inspected every two years, and if you gets pulled over, and the find two things, you gets a police escort to inspection.
If the car is not legal, you get your licens plates revoked, and gets a hefty fine.

So EVERTHING has to be Smokey Yunick style, passed by one ingenior or you get punished!!

In 2008 it became legale to use cycle fenders on cars in Denmark. So this is one of the reasons for why I like East coast cars.

I'm a totally anal about time correct on my own cars.

Texasdart, I would'nt know, mudflaps, approns and fenders is mandatory in Denmark.

The rodder/cop relationship has changed a tad since the fifties...

That Model A is sick, that's the way a fendered car should sit!

no requirements for fenders here in Indiana, thankfully.

  13. the inspection is only for composite built vehicles and those without proper paperwork/or salvage repair. if the car was previously registered in ct. there is NO inspection [if you had the correct paper work you could register a pile of rust]. vehicles from out of state only need a vin verification, and not a safety inspection. it sounds good, but i have seen some cars that should not be on the road. of course the cops are out there!

Oregon law was changed in 70s thru the efforts of the Oregon Streetrod Association working with legislators that had no clue...
now its OK on dry paved roads with an American pre 1936 vehicle...
been stopped a few times as cops aren't always up on all laws...
here is what our rods looked like in 50s

  21. I prefer fenders on most anything. I personally think only coupes and roadsters can pull off being fenderless. Fenderless sedans and pickups look top heavy. And anything 33 and up needs fenders in my opinion.

I agree with this. There are always a few exceptions, but for the most part, I'm with 56don.

I run fenders awhile and then change my mind and take them off and hang them back in the rafters.

Yes, they are a pain to get aligned right, but I prefer the look of a fendered car...
