I know there are lots of books on how to build hot rods out there, but do I recall one that is basically a How To on an AV8 Model A ???????? There is the Vern Tardell book, is that the one I am thinkin of.....Have a friend, who has the same Model A he drove in High School, back in the 60's, wants to build it into what he considers an old school AV8, one draw back, is he does not use or have a computer, the only web he deals with are spiders in the barn...SO...Help me out and give me suggestions on books we can find for him....ANY AND ALL LEADS WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED...
Yes the Vern Tardel book is a good one that discusses the AV8 build. It is called "How to Build a Traditional Ford Hot Rod" by Mike Bishop and Vern Tardel. This is a good resource and easy read. Good luck!
Just ordered one off Amazon .com called " Ford Speed Manual " by Fred w. Bill Fisher reprint from June 30 1952 Fisher books , 11$ I haven't got it yet but hope to receive it soon . Found it on H.A.M.B. post by mad mechanic
Vern has some smaller tech books that are more specific (axles, spindles, brakes, etc.) that are very helpful. all of the early Clymer books are really helpful and most are being reprinted. the Don Montgomery books are also very good for ideas but aren't particularly technical.
The Tardel, Bishop book is probably a necessity if you are just starting out or if ya have experience. I read it over and over before and during our 32 build. Get that and the HAMB and you should be ready to go...
