Really enjoy these pictures, they remind us that thousands of people were building hot rods and customs that never got attention from the magazines of the time, but they were just a cool and meant just as much to their builder as did the famous hot rods.

What grill is in the last picture?

 

I love the look of the wide whites with black (or dark colored) steelies that were seen on so many of these cars in the late 50s.

 

If you are talking about the shoebox, it is a 54 Pontiac grill.

 

I love the way these guys would just ditch the hub caps and then race on their wide white street tires! They would drive to the track, race and then go cruising! Very cool! Thanks for sharing these pics ... they were gallons of fun to see! ...robber

My thoughts exactly.

If anyone has info on these cars, or photos and info on any cars from the SE MI/NW OH area in the early days, please shout out!

 

no rats, tats, greasers, black T's, cuffs, piercings, orca's...can't be the 50's...bro.

 

The blackball fad of the 40's was replaced with the wide whitewall fad of the 50's, which was replaced by the narrow whitewall fad of the early 60's, which was replaced by the blackball fad of the mid-to-late 60's.

Great pics!!! Also a reminder that there is still some history (in pics) laying on the shelf in someones house. Saw one today in my basement. Need to dig them out. Tim

Don't see much in the way of broken suspension either.

 

Confession: every time the page loads the photos go in a new order, so there is no #19, actually. Would you be referring to the Studebaker pic with the lowboy coupe (?) in the background? If so, I have no idea. Would love to hear what the experts say.
