What was your first speed equipment part?

1958--put 3 2's on a stock flathead in a 37 Ford pu--didn't run too well and as it was my daily commuter I took it off and went back to stock--ran much better

 

I bought a spark intensifier at the custom car show at the Cincinnati Music Hall early in 1965. Put it on my 241 '54 Dodge hemi in the parking lot. I swear it ran better on the way home!

 

A set of Isky valve springs and aluminum retainers for a FE; to go with the used '63 427 solid cam I put in my '59 352PI. Motor would turn 6500+, why it never blew up is a mystery. Did explode a lot of generators though.... LOL

 

A fish carb and put it on my stock '40 chevy....didn't run any better, but I was the only guy that had one

 

a set of drop handlebars for a honda cb 125 circa 1976

 

Offenhauser aluminum valve cover and split manifold for the 216 inliner in my '46 Chevy PU. didn't make it go any faster but the cool factor when up several notches!

 

Mallory coil from Super Shops in long beach, calif. still got it, then Hedman headers and Edelbrock torker and 600cfm Holley, then Sig Erson camshaft.

 

Sun Super Tach, purchased at H&H Speed Shop, Cocoa Florida. The Tach and the Speed Shop are long gone.

 

Hurst floor shifter.

 

Edelbrock finned valve covers for an amc engine!! Still have them on the same car and that was in 1973!!

 

Corvette side draft carbs, manifold and air cleaners for my 235 powered 31 Chevy sedan for $35.00 Got a floor shift from PepBoys around the same time for $9.99. Neither one of em worked very well

 

A two pot Offy manifold for an 8-BA. Came off the used wall at Scotty's Muffler in Berdoo. Still have it.

 

Edelbrock SP-2P for the BBC in my 55 Chevy truck. Bought it at the Portland Swap Meet Annex for $40. I'm quite sure performance went down.

HOOKER headers!

 

Back in 1965 bought a pair of Hedman headers and a noname 3/4 cam for my 58 Plymouth 318, mail ordered from the old Warshawski & Co. Must have gotten a catalog a week after that order.

 

Chrome acorn nut covers for the head nuts on the 48 Merc Flathead in my 36 Ford pickup. Got em at Pep Boys in San Diego. Didn't go much faster though.

 

11" wide mags for my OT first car.

 

A Mallory Rev Pol dual pt distributor from J.C. Whitney and a General Kinetics cam from Smith Auto in Mpls for my '62 Vette back in '72

 

Didn't buy it I made it. A hood scoop for my '48 Crosley. (Really)

 

In 1959, i bought Vic Hubbard solit lifters, pushrods, and adjustable rocker arms for my first swap, a 53 Olds 303 into a 34 Ford 1/2 ton. In the same order, I also bought Hurst motor mounts, Olds to 34 Ford.

Old school set of ''offie''tall chevy valve covers even before I had a engine to put them on. I think I traded them for a skate board or some stuppid like that. Sure wish I had them today.

 

Chrome air cleaner. Got it for my birthday from the Joe's store in Highlandtown Md. I had a '62 Rambler American flat head 6. I drove it around my grandmothers farm.

 

A set of four used Ansen sprint wheels for 60.00 .

 

Fenton cast iron headers for my '49 Chevy 6 with duals & glasspacks. Sounded like an airplane on the freeway. Miss that car.

Spring/Summer 1960. Fresh out of High School , first few paychecks from first job, bought a set of Jahns pistons, 4" merc crank,Howards F9 cam...Had Willie Thompson (who had just quit Holman-Moody to open his own shop...!) build me a 3 3/8" x 4" flattie...Stuck that motor in a '50 Ford and went dirt track racin' . Spent every dime I ever made that summer ...What a money pit...Learned my lesson
Wouldn't take a gold nickel for the experience tho...Wish I had that engine back..!!!

 

A 3 2bbl intake manifold for SB Chevy from Montgomery Ward mail order store in Lebanon MO. in 1958 for my '55 Chevy 210. Next was a "full race" cam from the same store. Surprisingly, that was a hell of a cam.

 

Spark-O-Matic shifter for my 51 Merc at Value Mart in Yakima Wa in 1963 right after I broke the shift tube at the shift handle in the column. I think I paid 18 bucks for it.
