Doesn't exactly fit the theme, but it is a sign inspired by an old car advertisement. It is just too cool not to share. Franklin called this body style their "Speedster". They were fairly conservative.

It's not anymore... I went through there last Friday and noticed it was gone, didn't see it in the parking lot either... Probably wasn't enough of it to save sadly...

  8. My pictures of this one weren't that hot because I happened to drive past it after sunset, but I spotted this one in South Carolina last week. Luckily it's on Google.

Looks to be just a shell with some tin bondoed on to make the doors - a Plymouth maybe? Had an inline engine anyhow.

Quite a few vintage cars on the lot, and most of the same ones visible on Google were there last week, so probably doesn't sell much.

Really cool thread. I'm surprised no one has posted this one yet- The chopped Merc that sits on top of Bert's Diner along Rt. 5 in Mechanicsville, MD. Used to go there with my father in his old '39 Chevy just about every Friday night when I was a kid, back before Bert sold the place and it was remodeled to the way it looks now.

In 1964, I was driving big rigs coast to coast, used to come west on 60,70, 80...
There was a truck stop called "Hungry Truck", somewhere East of Denver.

The proprieter was an ex trucker, had his old 'H' model Mack and 38 foot refer trailer supported 35 feet in the air, on three 12-inch dia. steel tubes. You could see it for a couple of miles...

They made a GREAT chicken fried steak.

My wife says: "Oh, you say that about ALL the truck stops!"

    Well...They did!

  15. That reminds me, I passed on I-95 NB somewhere in NC or VA a sign for a truck repair shop that consisted of an International cabover and trailer, completely upside down and supported level, as their sign. I'm sure I could find that on Google Streetview but I don't remember exactly where I saw it. That said I'm thinking NC between exit 93 and the VA line.

I have been meaning to take this picture and add to this post for a few years now. We passed it on the way home from Christmas and I got a quick shot. It is encased in a nice layer of ice from the storm that darkened a lot of Maine Christmas trees.

This truck and UFO are parked at the Little A'le Inn in Rachel, NV.

This is about five miles outside the boundary of Area 51.

  24. Saw this guy on US 127 just below Celina Ohio on the way back to the hotel after the Nascar trucks at Eldora. '56 Chevy, no glass in it though. Pic is from Google, was dark when I saw it.

The above post is a bit messed up. I had a hell of a job getting it this good so, will leave well enough alone.

To recap: The Mercedes van is on the roof of a glass shop in Belleville, the VW in front of a body shop on the north side of Trenton, the Dodge truck in Tweed, all within 30 miles of each other more or less. I don't know why this area has so many but they do.

I didn't look through the whole thread to see if it's been posted already, but this sprinter is doing a perpetual endo by the side of the road just south of Lime Rock, CT: sprinter.jpg

  29. Sara's in Presque Isle right on Lake Erie. They used to have cars outside too. I'm not sure if they still do or not, I haven't been there in years.
