Projects I've got my hands on another Model A Coupe, time to make it a little cooler....

Well it didn't take long once the last A left to have another take its place.

This 1930 Coupe is a legit stored in the barn since 1962 car. It was bought earlier this year by a Hamber in Washington. He got it running reliably, put some tires on it that hold air, new carb etc.

It he popped it on CL and I watched it for a few days then called. I almost had myself talked into it the decided to hold off. I've got a lot of irons in the fire, lots of kids to buy for for Christmas, going into my slow time of year.....you get the picture.

I turned a buddy onto it and he made the deal. Well that lasted 3 days and it was at my place to get it dialed in and looking like it should. Well.....after a couple weeks of that I splurged and bought it!

At this point, I put new Firestone Deluxe Champions on freshly powder coated 35 Ford wires, with 32 V8 caps, ordered a new floormat, a couple door / window crank handles etc. Got the lights working properly.

We ditched the front and rear bumpers and spare tire mount.

Pulled the front spring apart. There was 3 broken springs, and reversed the main leaf with my iron worker, installed a shortened pitman arm.

At this point the stance is looking waaay better. I'd like to get the rear lower but not at a risk of losing the rake, for now the rear isn't gonna go any lower.

Next up, give it a haircut.

For those that follow me on instagram, I wavered a lot on what to do. I settled on 3" and I really believe it was the right call.

I like the rake it has, those firestones should fill the rear fender good. Everyone has their own idea about chopping, I like the Abe Lincoln top hat stock height myself. Are the 35 wires going to be black as well??

Cool! An inch in the back, and two in the front would look awsome. I know it easier said than done.

 

The best part of this car is its Black, has really good, real, patina.
And, only one layer of paint.

I told myself since the last two chops, the NEXT one will ve 1.5-2" tops.
I think it would be killer, but I can't help it.

What a great coupe to start with. That thing looks cherry! I like the direction you're going with it too.

Subscribed....this thread makin me itch...just bought a black on black 30 coupe 2 weeks ago on cl myself...waiting on its boat ride to new Zealand.

What sizes are those firestones?

 

750's in the rear and 500-525 R16's up front.
Note the tread pattern is slightly different.
4.50-4.75's, 600's, 700's, and 750's match. The 500-525's and the 550's are slightly different.

It's hard to beat a little coupe, great build!

 

That looks "Pissah" (East Coast term for really cool) just the way it sits. Kind of a Nice/ Nasty/ Sinister .Like when the librarian in the old movies takes of her glasses and lets her hair down and is smokin' hot. Keep posting pics. Good luck. Mike from Mass.

 

Three leaves out was too soft, went with minus two leaves and that worked great

Love the look after the chop. Nice stance, my son's was cut 5.5". They look much better with much taken out.
