Late Model Flathead Rebuild

    It really depends how well you get it rolled into the groove. 1/4" is too much. 1/16" is plenty if it's well seated. A dab of RTV around it at the mating surface doesn't hurt either.

    Yeah it's got me a little confused too. The way the intake is, two cylinders share a barrel from the carburetor. 1-6, 2-5, 3-8, 4-7. But when I look at the plugs, cylinder 2 is black, but cylinder 5 seems to look fine.

    Are you sure it doesn't have a vacuum leak? Porosity in the intake? Bad base plate on a carb?

    I'll look into my intake more and check for a vacuum leak.

    Nice job man.. I'm getting ready to do a 59a. I want to build the most reliable flathead possible to make the 5000 mile round trip to bonneville next year
