......I think you may be on the right track there. "Hot Rod Long" was a well known racer in the Newport, Morristown, Johnson City, Kingsport area of Tennessee.
Here are a few from the fifties/sixties. My dad in the freshly built car is the one in my avatar. you can see in a couple pics later, it didnt stay fresh for long. The two tone 36 or so Plymouth was what he raced when I was growing up in the sixties. Couple shots of a line up of cars were all cars from here in my hometown in the fifties. The tractor trailer was my grandpas rig with two cars that my dad and his brother raced locally, also from the fifties. The Studebaker belonged to another local guy in the early sixties. Lots of fun growing up around this stuff.
Fellas I am looking for a windshield frame for a 29 ford 2 door coupe. I am a racer and love viewing these old cars. Nothing souds better than an old flathead counting off the cylinders as it slides into the corners. I have a real rough old coupe and dont want to trash a good stock piece so if you got an old racecar that has 1 call me 618-513-0401 I could use it as a pattern or maybe repair it . This car had a real bad chop and will never be a showpiece but will always have my heart I know this isnt a classified place to post this but really need some help. Thanks Tom
i think in the spring i am going to sand down the car and paint it again .maybe i will find some kind of number or name under the paint.

I have a '39 Ford coupe that raced at Braddock Mt. Speedway in 1951 & '52. It has been completely restored. I would like more info. about the speedway, if anyone has any. Thanks

Boy, I remember Dorsey Speedway. It was small, probably 1/4 mile around the outside guardrail at best. Plenty of action, and I remember it had a dark, red clay surface. I've got a picture of a sportsman car that I worked on the pit crew there. I'll try to post.
Not always the case. My first car was a '40 Ford coupe that had raced in the powder puff division at Westport Stadium in Baltimore. A little rough, but I drove it on the street. Loved that car, and still love the '40 Fords.
Here's a picture of Bernie West and his sportsman (flathead powered) car that ran at Dorsey in the mid 60s. I worked with Bernie at Service Trucking in Bladensburg, Md., and he would let me work on his pit crew. I would stand in the infield with a galvanized watering can that had the diffuser head removed so the water would come out faster (cause the modified flatheads would run hot, I'm not kidding, it's true!). The idea was if he ran hot, he would come into the infield for water. Sometimes the cars would get out of control and run into the infield during a race (kinda like a figure 8 race) and I would run to one of the two light poles in the infield for protection. Boy, those were the days.
This plywood sign is all that is left of the 5/8 mi dirt track in Hillsboro, Oregon. The track was in operation '53 to '59, ran mostly Hardtops and some Destruction Derbys.
Who do I contact to get info on the California Jalopy Association? Or anyone running something like this in SoCal? We will be moving there soon and love racing this class and can't find any info on a class like it there?

Still some nice pics Kirby. The CJA, evolved into the CRA (California Racing Association), maybe in the late 1950's, as the cars and drivers shifted from jalopies to sprint cars. Hope you find what you are looking for down there.
my tribute 1948 mopar to dad is coming along nicely, it will be totally street legal, have 2 seats and look like a 1960's jalopy. eventually it will be painted red & a #7 on her.
