You should love these pictures you busted your ass to make them possible!

It deserves paint otherwise the prevailing ignorance will dub it a "Rat Rod".

    awesome ride, love it!!

  6. Thanks KB. The darkness in the headlight's is the reflectors. I do have new ones though. She does look radiant in bare metal but I think she deserves proper paint at this point.
    Thanks.
    Yes. Glover does excellent work.
    Thanks Nate.
    Thanks Kenneth.
Thanks. The pic's are to die for. And the next set after paint will be even better.
    Thanks.

  7. This weekend I finished the garnish molding's and managed to get a few more pictures than I did on the other side. I started with the quarter window.

After I marked and cut the molding. Then I screwed the first corner into place.

Then I set the next corner into place.
Then I set the third corner in place and started to tack everything together.

After everything was tacked good I removed the molding and welded it off.
Now it is ready to sand and polish.

  8. Then I started on the front. First I cut it into pieces.
Then I bolted the bottom piece in place.
Then I trimed and clamped the top pieces in place.
After everything was cut and fit then I tacked everything together.

  9. With the welding done I sander the welds with 50 grit on the 3" sander. After hammer sand hammer sand etc. The welds were smoothed and ready for for 100 grit on the dule action. Glover came by and started taking pictures of me sanding.

    After 100 I use 220 then 320 and finish with 1000.
    Then it's time to polish.

Now the front garnish molding is ready for chrome.

You already have the bricks laid behind you're stove? OK, now you're really making us all look bad... Only retired people are supposed to get that much "extra" stuff done!

  20. Thanks. Hopefully the step by step is helpful.
After we done the photo's I took a Saturday and got the bricks in and the stove hooked up so I can have heat in the garage. Nothing like working in 70's instead of 30's in the winter.
Thanks Eric. I think I have around 4 to 5 hrs in each.

Amazing! For guys like me (3rd grade skill set) it's so cool to see great fabricators turn out these bitchin' pieces! Then to know YOU, with YOUR skill set, took 4-5 hours each it's truly humbling!

  22. Thanks for the compliments Eric. You could do the same just have to practice. I learn every day. Every project gets a little more complex. Mabey by the time I am done here I will be ready to tackle the Zephyr project.

Your eye, your skills, and a Zephyr? I can't wait. There's one hiding out near here I've been after for years.

  24. Spent the day working on the deck lid. The crown was way off and the shape was not the same as the hole in the car.

I started by enlarging the slot's on the mounting brackets to adjust the lid a little better. Then I made a profile guage of the crown above the lid. I split the lip on top of the lid and added about 1/4" in the middle and adjusted the radius from side to side.
After everything was right I added more tacks.
Then the lid was welded sanded and reinstalled for the hundredth time. with the crown at the top lining up I started on the sides. The side where the prop rod had bent the lid still dident line up so I cut and realined it again then I had to cut the quarter at the bottom to widen so the edge fit.

After welding, sanding, etc the top and sides now fit. Next I need to cut the bottom inch off the skin and replace it to remove the pinholes at the bottom edge and to make the panels line up correctly.

That's some fantastic work! Best to you and yours!

  28. Started to replace the lower lip to get rid of rust and make gap better.

I sheared a piece of sheet but my brake is to short so I had to bend a lip the hard way on the edge of my welding table with a hammer.

Glover came by and took pictures while I worked again so more in action shots.

With the angle bent it was time to shrink the radius on the edges.

  29. After a little shrinking I checked for fit.
    Then shrunk some more.
Then checked some more until the radius was right on the first edge.

    [IMG][IMG]
Then started to shrink the other edge to get the gap right.

    I kept going and checking.

After the lip was right then I marked and cut the lid.

Then I tacked the new lip in place and it is ready to weld but that will have to wait for another day.

  30. Car builder asked for some pictures of the trunk channel and drain tube size. The drain tube is 3/4" at the lower edge. Hope these pictures help.
