I like a undropped 32 axle so much that I'm using the one I have in my '33 and then using a '33 in my '32 where I need to drop the axle. I just couldn't do it to a 32......wait is that all confusing?

Point being I love them undropped!

Houdailles rebuilt to 50/50 were the standard in Indy cars until about the early '60's. Problem now is finding good ones...many have been run to death after leaking dry, giving so much clearance everywhere that they have no real resistance even after a rebuild to keep oil inside.

    And expensive to boot!

Looking for a set of '33's if anybody's got any.

I had been looking for a thread which showed some comparisons of axle drops so that I could decide how much to drop my '32 heavy. Thanks to this thread, it looks like I'll be happy leaving it alone and gaining what I want by using a Model A crossmember, reversing the eyes on the springs, and dialing the rest in with front tire diameter.

I am thinking about going this route cause my frame is z'd in the front and with the dropped axle is brings the front end to lowand the wishbone mounts on the frame are about 3 inches off the ground and I am worried thats not enough clearance thanks for all the info fellow HAMBers

  11. Keep your two cents...dropped axles were virtually nonexistent on hot rods prior to 1947 (see AHRF archival photos or Don Montgomery's books). If you're going for a pre-war or immediate post war build, an undropped axle is the way to go.

My 29 roadster with an undropped 32 axle up front. Standard eye spring, 32 perch bolts. Probably not low enough for most folks tastes on here, but it's just right to me.

Here's mine not a real clear shot, it is undropped & drilled with friction shocks.

Anymore? Looking for ideas. I have a '32 and a Dago for my roadster but go back and forth as to which one to use.

  15. I have one (29 roadster with 32 heavy) under construction in Denver.

Digging this one up from way back. I would love to see some more contribution to this thread.

I'm interested in running a 32 heavy in my 32 chassis with A crossmember. Also, I would like to know what you run in the rear.

  17. Here's one I found, Malcom's Model A Roadster,

  18. Bump...

Just wondering if someone could guesstimate how much drop the spring perches through the wishbones adds??

    Three inches?

Stock chassis, axle and shocks, mechanical brakes and reversed eye spring with a few leaves out.
