Personally I would keep the 55 one of my fav cars. But this is all gonna be up to you. Are you tired of the 55? Do you love the 40 as much as the 55? How attached are yo to the 55? alot of factors that you need to ask yourself before you do anything. Do you think you will regret it after you trade?
Went to look at the 40 tonight. Links to Photobucket of both cars. 40 Coupe http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n58/scregan/40 Coupe/ 55 Bel Air http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n58/scregan/My 55 Bel Air/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ24

There's probably some sentimental value if you did all that work on the 55, but unless there is a ton of bondo on that 40, looks like an easy choice! TP
or The guy that gets your 55 is getting a pretty nice car, too. I mean, you've really dug into it. The 40 doesn't look it's been done to that level. That being said, I think it's a good trade for both of you.
I'd be in the really long line. Ya know, the one with a blue car you can barely see at the front of the line? I agree, a good deal for both of you. My overall spin is backed by a certain reverance for most things "early V8". All of them were wildly popular in a certain era of hot rodding. Today, a 40 coupe is now one of those cars that's at the top of that food chain. You may miss the "coulda" about the 55 considering how far you went with it, and every time you go to meet and see one you like you'll swoon a bit. Me? I wouldn't, not in the least. Go to a Super Chevy meet. Go to Hershey. Go to any big car event and 55-57 cars (mostly red) are dominant. Watch the BJ auction and count the tri-5s, again mostly red. Then you spot a 40 coupe and just stop to look. Rod, stock, project, mix, all regarded as one of the best early Fords extant to do as you please. Standing at the rear of one, seeing a nice long 3/4 view, does it get much better? Only when you break around a corner and see a Deluxe grille starin at ya. I wouldn't hesitate myself. You can find a natty lookin driver 55 in a few years if both turn your crank to the redline. Me, a 40 coupe turns my crank to over 8K rpms! I'd swap my 41 Packard 160 buisness coupe for a 40 Ford coupe in a heartbeat.
I enjoyed this expression from 40nut. I also enjoyed checking out the pics of both cars in detail. Tough decision. I am a Bel Air guy, but there is some intrigue with the 40 that cannot be beat. I am pretty sure I would jump on that wagon. Deep oil black and Chevron tail lights. Mmmmmmm. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Maybe it's time to get rid of one of the cars in the "maxed out" section of the garage! Then you could buy the 40.
By coincidence I have a 55 Chevy 2 dr sedan that is a driver and a 40 Ford Coupe that could be. I have had both since the early 90-s. I have the 55 half apart redoing the sheet metal which was patched and bondo'd many years ago. At the current rate of resto it will take another 20 years to finish.
I have owned several 40 Fords over the years and never have owned a '55 Chevy even though I like them,,if I had the opportunity to trade a '55 for a '40 I wouldn't hesitate one minute,,,I'd do it! HRP
The color on the first one looks like Burnt Orange... A '69 Dodge Charger color... I could be wrong...
Got the bug for a late 30's - Early 40's Ford Coupe. Have the 55 listed for trade under the wanted section.
Just seen where the guy backed out, I was thinking the same thing he must have seen opinions here. It's been 15 years ago now that I had a perfect 50 Merc for the taking and kept telling the guy how nice it was and how they were so so hard to find like his, he backed out. custom50
I just now saw your 55 on ebay and thought, well he must have decided to look for another 40 since the guy backed out, then I read on down and saw where you said you were wanting a 35 to 41 ford coupe,so my suspicions were confirmed. good luck!
Own both--each has their merits---but I'm kinda partial to 40's (have done/owned many)--especially coupes--just bought another 40 coupe project--good ones are very hard to find-too bad the guy changed his mind but there are other 40's out there--be patient.
